Add me to the list of people who get a black screen....
HP G60t-200CTO
Windows 7 64 bit.
I uninstalled the previous intel driver (8.15.10.1986) and installed 8.15.10.2086.. and got a black screan... grrr... Other older intel drivers have worked just fine so I don't agree that it's a special vendor bios issue.

I'm having the same problem on my Advent Roma 2000. Windows 7 - 32 bit. Intel Mobile Series 4 Family Chipset. When I attempt to intall the update there is no progress to it. The resolution changes and the screen just turns black. When will Intel solve this problem?

Same problem here Intel. I got the black screen after installing the last 2 drivers. both 8.15.10.2086 and .2104.
I think i'm running on drivers from 2009, though i'm not completely sure. Please make a fix for this problem.
The only solution to the black screen was to boot using windows 7 disc and go to system recovery.
My laptop is a HP 4510s with Intel Core 2 Duo T6570, and Intel GMA 4500 HD.

Same problem here. I'm running XP, so it's not exclusively a Windows 7 issue. The OS starts to load up, the screens go black and eventually shut off. I know the OS loads because I can Remote Desktop in.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a drive that will get things back to a working condition. I have 2 large monitors running at high resolution, so the default VGA drivers don't work very well. I've had to install a video card just to use my system again. The whole point of me getting this CPU was so I didn't need a video card!

You can try the latest version of the driver found here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+HD+Graphics&ProdId=3231&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+HD+Graphics&ProdId=3231&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39
You can use the detect utility:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm
And here you can find the instructions if you receive an error that you have OEM drivers:

Victor_Intel,
I'm confused as to how this is supposed to help.. It's already been mentioned that driver 2104 (the latest) also has the same behavior.
Is anyone at Intel looking into why we are having this issue? Pointing us to the detect driver page that we are already using.. and recommneds we us 2104.. and that causes a black screen, doesn't help.

Intel: it's not the detection utility, it's the driver that's causing the screen freeze with Windows Logo on it for like 2 months now.. I can't believe you guys think that your users are dumb enough not to report that.
Thank you for your time.

Thanks for all the input on this issue, however, we could use a little more information that would help with reproduction of the issue.
Can those who are seeing the issue please post up the text from the GMA diagnostic report? This will give me the system and software information I need to replicate the issue.
To access the diagnostic report, follow these steps:
1. Right click on desktop and select "Graphics Properties"
2. Once the "Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel" opens, click on "Options and Support"
3. Then click "Information Center"
4. Click the "Save" button in the upper right corner and save the diagnostic information to a text file.
5. Copy the information in the text file to this Forum
This will really help to get to the bottom of this issue. I have tried both the 2086 and 2104 drivers on multiple systems and have not seen the issue. It may be system dependent so the more details I have on the systems with the issue the better.
Intel does take the quality of it's drivers very seriously and will investigate the issue thoroughly.
Edit:
Do this with a working driver that you roll back to. I am interested in the system configuration, not the driver information. Please also post what brand and model of system you have.

What? No, we can't because with that driver, we can't get into Windows at all. If we could do what you asked, this wouldn't be a problem.

Let me clarify this request a bit. Do this with a working driver that you have rolled back to. I am interested more with the system configuration than the driver information.

What version of System BIOS is on your system?
Is it the latest from http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFW140E http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFW140E ?

My BIOS version is current. I haven't used your links, but I've downloaded the 2104 version from Intel's website directly and from WinUpdate - same result.

Robert,
Your modified 2104 drives did not fix my black screen issue.
64 bit win 7 running 1366 x 768 resolution...
I noticed that the driver claims to fix resloutions 1680x1050 and 1440x900 . So maybe they didn't fix it for 1366 x 768

OK,, thanks for the feedback. It should fix any native resolution,, we just mentioned 1680x1050 and 1440x900 as they are the most common resolutions in question.
