Hi, I had a problem with this error(DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED) showing with a lot of games, even the games I was able to play with before(Battlefield 2042).
I finally found a solution I wanted to make a post about it.
There is a problem with your latest graphics card driver and the solution I have found is to install an older version(11/7/2023) of the driver.
The solution I found is posted here
https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/1h41bip/directx_error_dxgi_error_device_removed/
For context:
I got this error from many games for example: battlefield 2042, battlefield 1, latest resident evil games, games made with unreal engine(e.g. Age of Darkness: Final Stand) and even few Unity games.
My system:
hp victus gaming laptop 16-r0xxx
i7-13700HX, nvidia RTX 4060

Hi IPatience,
Thank you for posting in the Community
Thank you for providing this information. To assist you more effectively, I need to gather a bit more detail about the issue.
- Have you made any recent changes to your system?
- Have you attempted a clean installation of the driver using a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) before installing the new driver? You can follow the instructions here: How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an... Clean Installation of Intel® Graphics Drivers in Windows*
- OEM Graphics Driver download: Victus Gaming Laptop 16-r0xxx (9Q2J2U8) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
Just to add, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) drivers are provided by the manufacturer of your computer, such as HP. These drivers are tailored to work with the specific hardware configurations of HP systems and may include custom features, optimizations, or branding specific to HP. OEM drivers are often tested and validated to ensure compatibility and stability with HP's specific system configurations. Generic drivers, on the other hand, are provided directly by the hardware component manufacturer, such as Intel. These drivers are designed to work with a wide range of hardware configurations and are often updated more frequently to include the latest features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
To better understand your system's configuration, I kindly request that you download the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software.
You can find the download link here:

- Here's a quick guide on using the Intel SSU:
- Download and launch SSU.exe.
- Check the box for "Everything."
- Click "Scan."
- When the scanning is complete, click "Next."
- Click "Save."
- Please send the saved file to us.

As I have said before I have fixed the problem so I don't require help at the moment but if I were to install the latest Intel graphics driver, the problem would probably reoccur again.
I made this to post help other people and help you find the bug and fix it.

Hi IPatience,
This is well acknowledged; I appreciate your response for clarifying. I just asked a couple of questions to further look into this issue as well with Intel Graphics Driver.

I understand,
I'll try give a detailed information, some of it might be useless.
I bought this laptop about a year ago. Windows 10 was installed at that if I remember correctly.
I have updated windows and nvidia driver. Every software or game worked perfectly including Battlefield 2042.
Later I did uninstall battlefield 2042 and haven't played it for a long time so I won't be able to pinpoint when the problem started to occur but I think it started with a windows update.
A couple months ago I noticed the problem, I have tried updating and reinstalling nvidia drivers, edited registry, updated directx but nothing worked.
I haven't tried anything with intel GPU or the intel graphics driver.

I also haven't tried driver updates in the link.

A couple days ago I format the pc, updated windows and drivers then tried the same games again but nothing have changed.
Later I have found a reddit post.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/1h41bip/directx_error_dxgi_error_device_removed/
First I tried disabling intel GPU and every game I had a problem with started working, but the fps was very low which I found weird.
after that I uninstalled the intel graphics driver then installed and older version(driver date:11/7/2023, version: 31.0.101.4953). Then I enabled the intel gpu restarted the pc and the problem was gone.
Another thing is now windows sees the old intel driver and with a windows update, it updates intel graphics driver then problem returns then I have to fix it again 😄
Thats all I can add for now I hope it helps.
If you require I can share screen in a meeting.

Hi IPatience,
Thank you for your patience. I wanted to inform you about the limitations of OEM products as discussed. Based on the behavior you observed, it appears that the OEM drivers are the only ones suited to run your system with switchable graphics effectively. Therefore, I will be closing the inquiry and your feedback on our drivers is greatly acknowledged.
Best regards,
