I recently bought a Mercury motherboard with Intel G41 Express Chipset.

Everything is fine except the Graphic Drivers..They just won't install. I have downloaded the latest drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+G41+Express+Chipset&ProdId=3048&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39 Intel Support. But in vain.

The screen resolution window show a LOT of resolutions

I am using Win 7 Ultimate with Core 2 Duo Processor. Here's a more detailed view.

Please help me find the appropriate driver.

Hello,

Please be aware that we provide generic drivers that have not been developed or tested specially for your system. Each motherboard, laptop or Original Equipment Manufacturer can add, remove and change features on the video controllers they implement on their systems. Therefore they provide customized drivers to support such changes. So we always recommend using the latest drivers provided directly by your motherboard or Original Equipment Manufacturer.

If you have already tried the latest driver from your computer manufacturer and would like to try instead the generic Intel graphics driver, you may download the latest generic driver from the Intel Download Center:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+G41+Express+Chipset&ProdId=3048&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+G41+Express+Chipset&ProdId=3048&LineId=1100&FamilyId=39

If during the installation of the Intel generic drivers you get this message: "driver not validated on this computer", go here for further instructions:

http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm

If you still cannot install the generic drivers, try using the drivers provided by your motherboard manufacturer and check with them if the issue persists.

Thanks for a neat explanation. I just have one more question.

In the image shown below, I have a lot of resolutions. Does that mean something? (like the graphic driver is not installed properly or sth like that)

Hello,

All of these resolutions are just generic or basic resolutions that the driver from Microsoft* provide, so it is expected to see such list.

One more question, Say I buy a Graphic card. Will that change things.

It would not, that list of resolutions is provided by the operating system not by the video controller.

Hello,

These are generic resolutions. It has nothing related to the fact that the driver is working or not. You might check the resolutions that are provided by the video driver using the Intel® Graphics and Media Control Panel pressing Control+Alt+F12. On the Display tab, go to general settings and you will see an option that says resolution with a drop down menu. That will list the resolutions supported by your display.
