When you use the Intel generic driver, you lose customizations made by Acer.
And, since you have dual graphics, you must use both the intel and nvidia driver provided by Acer.

Brightness control for external monitor through software was working until i updated my drivers from 26.20.100.7463
My all other drivers are up to date. Also if I rollback my intel graphics driver then brightness control starts to work again
