Independent second monitor

We have a system that drives a second monitor from a Windows 10 PC using an Intel 530. We currently have to use an extended desktop to access the screen which is only used by our dedicated application. This gives a number of issues as we have to be sure our app is talking to the correct screen and if there are problems we end up with a Windows desktop showing on the second monitor which is undesirable. Ideally we would want a screen dedicated to our app that is not part of the Windows desktop set. We don't need to display a lot of images on the screen so a different API to write to the screen would be fine.

Is there any way to do this? I noticed some older Intel graphics devices have a dual mode in addition to single/clone/extended, and this sounds interesting, but I could find anymore information about it.

Hello PHend6,

Thank you for posting on this Intel Community.

To better assist you, we would like to have more information about your system configuration.

  1. Computer(s) and monitor models you are using. How are you connecting these devices to each other? (e.g. HDMI*, DisplayPort*, adapters, etc.)
  2. Which APIs are you currently using and their versions?
  3. Could you please elaborate on this sentence: "Ideally we would want a screen dedicated to our app that is not part of the Windows desktop set". Is this something similar to Full Screen Mode?

Note: if possible, please upload a video/picture showing what you would like to achieve.

The computer is an industrial PC (iBASE AMI222) and the primary monitor is from Hope Industrials connected via DVI, I don't have the exact model but its a 1920 by 1080 touch screen. The second "monitor" is a 4K DLP projector.

Our application runs on Windows 10, built with VS2017 C++ and using Qt library 5.9.2. We current create a Qt full screen, borderless window on the second monitor. If something goes wrong the window disappears showing a Windows desktop, task bar, etc. We also get challenges when the window appears on the wrong monitor.

We really don't want to write to the projector as a window, and would rather it was a separate device that was not part of the Windows Desktop set. Ideally there would be some API which would let us write to a frame buffer or send a png file directly to the projector.

Hello PHend6,

Thank you for your response.

The computer specification page does not list a specific processor model. Could you please let us know the Intel® Processor model number installed on this computer?

Which forum do you recommend on the Developer Zone? I didn't see one that was related to the GPU or multiple monitor support.

Hello PHend6,

The Intel® Developer Zone is a different support channel. Since you are developing software, we may not be able to further assist you on this Community. We recommend that you register, and contact a member of the Intel® Developer Zone to better address your request. If you submit your question on the wrong forum, they can refer you to the proper forum to assist you further.

In addition, it seems that the issues you are experiencing are related to how your application works in a Windows* environment. We also recommend that you contact Microsoft* for more information on this behavior.

You may also want to speak with a Field Application Engineer (FAE) from a local distributor to see whether they are able to help.

A list of Intel® Authorized Distributors can be found here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/partner/where-to-buy/overview.html
