Intel i7-3770K and HD4000 Screen Flickering on Dual Displays

Hello,

I have a new build using an Intel i7-3770K processor and have two identical displays connected (one via DVI-D, the other via HDMI) to the motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H) and using the HD4000 onboard graphics. I'm using Win7 x64 and have the latest Intel HD4000 drivers installed.

I constantly see screen flickering on my displays. The flickering will happen on either display and does not seem to happen at any specific instance or following any specific sequence of actions. It seems very random and seems like a flicker and as if the image is shifting or jumping an inch on the screen and then returning back to where it was.

I'm a little disheartened that a brand new system is already having such a showstopper issue. Could anyone assist please?

I have attached my dxdiag results below:

Hi Rehan,

I recommend updating the BIOS of the motherboard. You can get the latest BIOS for it in the following link http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153# bios http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153# bios

You can run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool to check if the processor is working fine or not. this is the link to the software http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm

Thanks!

Hi Fred,

Thanks fore responding. Are you suggesting I update to the Beta BIOS? I have version F18 but the latest F19 is still in Beta. I am worried that going to a beta version of something as critical as a BIOS may actually decrease rather than increase system stability.

What do you recommend?

Thanks.

Hello Fred,

I have gone ahead and upgraded to F19e (Gigabyte Beta BIOS) and the issue persists.

How can I solve this issue? Thank you.

Hi Rehan,

An additional troubleshooting step you can perform is running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool from the following link http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm. That tool will run a stress test to the features that come with that processor.

If the issue persists I recommend contacting Gigabyte in order to check if they can run some tests to the motherboard itself. You can use the following link http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx

Thanks!

Dear All,

I'm experiencing annoying flickering problem on my Dell Inspirion 17R SE laptop with HD4000 graphics. See first 15 seconds of this video:

I have latest Dell Bios: A15, 2013-05-17

Upgraded new HD 4000 drivers from here: http://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-21192 http://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-21192 Didn't help.

Also trying this: http://denis.doublebuffer.net/lablog/2012/11/19/fixing-the-screen-flickering-on-a-dell-inspiron-n5720-and-maybe-many-others/ http://denis.doublebuffer.net/lablog/2012/11/19/fixing-the-screen-flickering-on-a-dell-inspiron-n5720-and-maybe-many-others/

Any ideas how to get rid of this flickering problem?

Hello wonski333,

Based on your description, I recommend you doing the following steps:

  1. Remove the battery from the computer and do a power cycle.
  2. Download and install the latest drivers at the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers

It is important to say that the driver we provide is a generic driver. We as Intel ® provide the hardware to the system manufacturer and they will design the drivers for their units. Due to this reason, I recommend you installing our generic driver and if issue persists, contact the computer manufacturer to get the latest drivers for the unit.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for feedback. I made all the steps your recommended, unfortunately it changed nothing.

Same annoying flickering. I will ask DELL to replace motherboard with graphics chip under warranty.

Do you have any other suggestions ?

Best regards,

Wonski
