Netbook with GMA 3600, can clone display but can't extend desktop

Attaching my netbook to a second monitor, I can clone the display. However, there doesn't seem to be an extended desktop option, despite efforts to find one by myself and manufacturer (the one with the cow logo) support.

I might just write this off as annoyance and the price I paid for getting a $250 computer, but reliable sources* claim:
All Intel graphics products support extended desktop across 2 displays
Any ideas to achieve an extended desktop?

Hello,

In fact, the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 is able to support clone and extended desktop.

You can try using the latest generic driver for this video controller, this is posted on this site:

Additionally, try using the latest BIOS for your computer and try to enable extended desktop with the instructions on the following URL:

In the past, the feature has been blocked by third party security software like PCtools or Spyware Doctor*, so make sure that not similar software is installed in order to troubleshoot this issue.

Furthermore, check with your Original Equipment Manufacturer to make sure that your computer does support this feature or if it has been blocked as a customization from your OEM.
