If this is a laptop, you should not be using any drivers downloaded directly from the Intel or NVIDIA sites; you should be using *only* those drivers provided by your laptop manufacturer. It is possible that the drivers have been modified by the laptop manufacturer. Installing drivers from the Intel and/or NVIDIA sites would remove support for the custom features - and this may include (and thus block) the ability to switch between the drivers.
