Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail - Fatal DirectX Error

Hello,

I am experiencing a fatal DirectX Error when playing FFXIV. This seems to happen most during cutscenes, which is especially frustrating since the new expansion just released and the game has ALOT of cutscenes. However, this does happen outside of cutscenes as well. My entire PC will freeze for a few seconds then i received an error message (screenshot attached) and the game will crash.

I've tried uninstalling the graphics drivers with DDU and reinstalling. I reinstalled the game. And I've tried changing every in-game setting possible to no avail. The error seems to be happening more frequently after i reinstalled everything fresh.

GPU: PREDATOR BIFROST Intel Arc A770 OC

Driver: 31.0.101.5593

Hey @Kiskai just wondering if you managed to perform clean install driver. Below I shared the link on how to perform that.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000091878/graphics.html

Once clean removed, then reinstall the latest driver.

Hope this may helps...

As I mentioned in my post, I already tried that.

Hi Kiskai,

I have the same problem with ff14 since the new expansion, also postet this see here:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Regular-Crashes-in-Final-Fantasy-14-since-new-Expansion/m-p/1610954#M15166

@RyanFeeko I always install drivers clean with DDU, alsi I have no problems with other games and with ff14 only since the new expansion...

I am also experiencing these DirectX crashes.

Happens randomly during gameplay.  Sometimes it is several hours after launching the game, sometimes it is only a few minutes.

Attached SSU.

I'm also experiencing this issue with an A750.

It can appear randomly and doesn't appear to be impacted by load. Whether I'm in a FATE party with 8 people, an A train with 240+ people, or even sitting on the login screen with the Dawntrail splash playing in the background - it has a chance to crash.

@Kiskai

...You've taken proactive steps like uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers using DDU, reinstalling the game, and adjusting in-game settings. Despite these efforts, it's concerning that the error persists and may have worsened after the reinstallation.

To further troubleshoot:

  • It would be helpful to run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) on your system to check for any issues related to DirectX that could be causing the error. You can do this by typing "dxdiag" into the Windows search bar and running the tool.

  • Check the Windows Event Viewer for any related error messages or events that coincide with the DirectX error in FFXIV. This can provide additional insights into what might be causing the crashes.

  • Ensure that your system is running stable in general. Check for any overheating issues, ensure adequate power supply, and consider running stress tests on your hardware components to rule out any hardware-related issues.

  • If the issue started occurring more frequently after updating to driver version 31.0.101.5593, consider rolling back to a previous stable driver version to see if that resolves the problem.

If you can provide any additional details or screenshots related to the DirectX Error message, that would be helpful for further diagnosis

Hope it helps,

Perkins

Same DirectX fatal error for me running an A770.  Seems random, but it happens often enough for me to post here.  I think it happens more often when other players are present in the area who cause certain shader(s) to load.

  • Driver version 32.0.101.5972 DOES exhibit this crash (current).
  • Drivers between above version and below version exhibit this crash.
  • Driver version 32.0.101.5122 does NOT exhibit this crash.

I switch between the above older driver when I need the stability.  Following has been attempted to fix, but none worked.

  1. Reboot.
  2. Clean driver install.
  3. PowerShell as Admin: sfc /scannow (3 corruptions found and fixed automatically seemed to be in Bluetooth sys files).
  4. PowerShell as Admin: Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

Following has not been tried.

  1. DDU

Screenshot, Event Viewer logs, and system specs attached.  Takes a while go get back in the game, so this is quite annoying.

Hoping this gets resolved in a future driver push.  Thank you, Intel, for working so hard on these drivers!

Oh that is strange, with 5972 I also never got the crash, but with 6078 the crash is now back for me up to 2-3 times a week

I wonder what makes the  difference that it crashes for me but not for you...hmmm

With the 6127 driver it got more worse again, from 2-3 times a week I got the crash once per day sometimes twice

In the release notes of 6127 it was noted the DX crash in FF14 was fixed, but still crashin for me, even more than before.

The only driver without crashing was 5972...
