Intel ARC A770 16GB LE Crash

Hi all,

I have been using my video card for over a year. Over the past 1-2 months, I have been experiencing crashes with the new drivers.

I tried performing a clean uninstall using a program (DDU), but I cannot run the program because the latest version of DDU has some issues and crashes (it worked perfectly in the past).

The problem occurred while I was watching YouTube on Firefox. After stopping the video, I noticed that my PC encountered a BSOD with a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE after 2-3 minutes.

I will attach the minidump file as well.

Hi Zoltán,

Thank you for posting in the Community!

Just to add, As a general best practice Intel recommends users adhere to Intel Default Settings on their desktop processors. Intel is not changing the tuning capabilities of existing K sku processors. Users who desire to overclock or utilize higher power delivery settings than recommended can still do so at their own risk as overclocking may void warranty or affect system health (learn more at Overclock Your CPU with Unlocked Intel® Processors - Intel).

I would like you to change the BIOS settings of your system to the preferred settings of the Intel processor. To help you with this, please visit this link: Updated Guidance RE: Reports of 13th/14th Gen Unlocked Desktop Processor Stability Issues - Intel Community.

Furthermore, you may refer to page 184 of the 13th Generation Intel® Core™ and Intel® Core™ 14th Generation Processors datasheet for the ICCMAX and ICCMAX_App. For the PL settings, you can refer to page 98 of the 13th Generation Intel® Core™ and Intel® Core™ 14th Generation Processors datasheet under the Processor Line Thermal and Power Specifications

Also, I would like to let you know that this recommendation is to make your processor stable and there is still a possibility that this will work on your system.

I recommend updating BIOS for systems configured with 13th and 14th Generation Processors.

Hi Dean R.!

Here are my BIOS settings and the website I’m using to update them: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-z790-p-wifi/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=PRIME-Z790-P-WIFI

Currently I'm using this version:
Version 1802
11.09 MB
2024/10/24

"1. Update with Intel ME version 16.1.32.2473v3.

Everything is set to Intel's default settings.

And the BIOS is using the default value for IA TDC Current Limit (Motherboard's Capability).

I haven’t made any manual adjustments to these settings.

I suspect this might be a GPU driver problem rather than a CPU or BIOS-related issue (yes I know about this problem: "Updated with Intel microcode 0x12B to address elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity"). This happened to me about a year ago, but after updating the ARC driver, the problem disappeared for 7–8 months. It mostly happens when I’m watching a video and then stop it. I experience about one crash every two weeks. Now, I’m experiencing the same issue again, but I’m unsure of the root cause.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or if you have any idea how can I help you to identify the problem.

Best regards,
Zoltán

Edit:

I recently updated Windows, the BIOS, and the Intel ARC driver, and used the newest version of DDU. With the new DDU, I was finally able to perform a clean uninstall. The new DDU doesn’t crash anymore. Everything is set to the Intel default profile (including the IA TDC Current Limit).

If a new system crash occurs, I will inform you. If not, we can close the thread.

Same issue except 8GB A750, AMD platform (5600X/B550 mobo) and its on Chrome vs Firefox when resuming from standby in Windows 11 with a youtube video open. There is clearly a newly introduced bug in the video decoder of the igfx64 driver in their rush to bring up B580 for todays launch. Until the last two driver releases everything has been solid. The previous release had graphics overlay corruption in Win11 and the latest has the BSODs when the system goes into standby with an app open that is using the media decoder portion of the GPU. Yes the idle power came down in this release (finally) but it broke resuming from standby when using the media decoder.

The  bug is platform agnostic and is related to recent changes in the Intel driver (since the OP is running a fully intel platform and mine is AMD except for GPU).

Hi DeancR_Intel!

I think we can close this thread. No crash after I used the DDU
