Intel Arc B580 - Severe Freezing During Multitasking and Streaming

Hello,

About a week ago, I upgraded my PC from a Gigabyte B450M S2H + Zotac RTX 2060 setup to an ASUS B550-F Gaming motherboard and a Maxsun 3-fan Intel Arc B580 GPU, which I imported from China via a relative. I’m also using a Ryzen 5 5600X processor. Everything seemed perfect at first — I configured the BIOS correctly, system booted fine, and gaming performance (FPS) was excellent across all titles.

However, after a few days of use, I started noticing heavy stuttering and freezing — but only during certain multitasking scenarios. For example, when a game was running and I opened another app like Google Chrome, File Explorer, or Task Manager, the entire system would freeze temporarily. Even moving windows around with the mouse would stutter heavily.

Today, while playing FC 25 (FIFA), I tried to share my screen on Discord and the system became nearly unusable: major stutters, mouse lag, and delayed response in both the game and the desktop environment. After checking Armoury Crate, I noticed something strange: the GPU usage was being reported at 609%. Even after stopping the Discord stream, I continued seeing spikes well over 100%, sometimes jumping to 280% or more.

CPU usage was not the issue — the Ryzen 5 5600X was under minimal load during these freezes. I’ve enabled ReSize BAR, temperatures are totally normal, and performance is great when not multitasking or streaming.

The GPU works well as long as I don’t open extra apps while gaming or attempt to stream. But once I do, it quickly becomes unusable. I suspect this is a driver issue, I think this is a lesser-known Maxsun variant of the Arc B580. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anyone else online using this exact card, and I can’t return it to China.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. Is this a driver bug? A firmware issue? Could it be related to compatibility or power delivery? I'm open to suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Note about screenshots:
The screenshots are in Turkish, sorry. I hope you can understand them by translating. They show values from Armoury Crate, driver versions, and BIOS info.

Hello swiftishere,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:

  1. Are you using an Intel brand Arc B580?
  2. What was the last change made in the system before the issue started?
  3. Did you overclock the processor, RAM and the Graphics card?
  4. What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your response.

  1. I'm using a Maxsun-manufactured Intel Arc B580 iCraft 12G graphics card (not directly from Intel brand).

  2. The issue has existed since the beginning, right after building the system.

  3. As far as I know, no overclocking has been applied to the CPU, RAM, or GPU.

  4. I haven’t tried many solutions yet — I only checked some BIOS settings, but nothing helped. I’ve now reset all BIOS changes to default, except for ReSize BAR, which is still enabled.

Thanks again.

Update:
I just experienced a blue screen (BSOD) while playing Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and screen sharing on Discord. This further confirms that screen sharing via Discord is a major trigger for the freezing and instability issues I’m facing. The system completely froze before crashing. I believe this might be tied to a driver-level issue related to GPU usage during hardware-accelerated screen capture.

Please let me know if this is a known issue or if any workaround exists.

Hello swiftishere,

Thank you for the update.

Let me gather more details about the issue for me to have more data.

  1. Can you provide a video of the issue
  2. How is the temperature of the processor and graphics card while doing screen sharing?
  3. Please help generate the SSU logs of the system. Kindly refer to the link below on how to generate the logs:

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your continued support.
Apologies for the video quality — the Intel Community upload limit is 23MB, so I had to reduce the resolution accordingly.
Attached the things you wanted.

Hello swiftishere,

Thank you for the update.

Please try to reinstall the driver using DDU methos for us to check if this is a driver issue. Kindly refer to the link below for the link of the DDU steps and link of the latest driver:

Hello Michael,

Thanks for the suggestion. I followed the DDU method exactly — booted into Safe Mode, uninstalled the drivers, then restarted and installed the latest Intel Arc driver from your link.

Unfortunately, the issue still persists. I tested it using The Last of Us Part II while screen sharing on Discord. Just a few seconds into sharing, the system froze completely again. In previous tests (e.g., with Bannerlord), it even caused a full system freeze followed by a blue screen.

I believe it will also happen during OBS recording or when opening multiple background programs and using them/moving their windows while gaming.

I’ve attached another short video showing the problem during TLOU2 + Discord streaming — the freezing is clearly visible.

Please let me know what I should try next.
Thanks again.

Hello swiftishere,

Thank you for the update.

Let me ask the following question and this is also for me to check if you have a hardware issue.

  1. Please provide the specification of your power supply.
  2. Can you try to test your Arc B580 on a different system and check if that system will also give BSOD issue?
  3. Additionally although is optional. You may also try a different Graphics card on your system.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for the follow-up.

  • My power supply is a Corsair CX750 750W 80+ Bronze, which should be more than sufficient for my setup.

  • I don’t have access to another system where I can test the Intel Arc B580, unfortunately.

  • However, in a few days, I might be able to test my own system using a different graphics card, to help isolate whether the issue is GPU-specific.

Let me know if there’s anything else I should prepare or try.
Thanks again.

Update:
I’ve discovered something new that might be related to the issue. When I disable ReSize BAR in the BIOS, the freezing and stuttering completely disappear. I can share my screen on Discord, record with OBS, and use other apps in the background while gaming without any system hang.

However, the gaming performance drops significantly. For example, The Last of Us Part II now runs at a constant 20–30 FPS, whereas it previously ran at 60–70 FPS. Could this be a compatibility or driver issue related to ReSize BAR?

I have the same issue as swiftishere when playing a game and had browsers or other apps open and just disabled my ReSize Bar and now it's seems to be all good.

FPS dropped a bit so would be good if Intel can fix it but for now it's alot better.

Have a Intel Arc 580 12Gb

Thank you for the info Swift!!

Hi swiftishere,

Thank you for sharing your findings in this thread. I just want to confirm does this issue only occur when you are streaming on applications such as Discord, OBS, etc.? Additionally, have you tried enabling ASPM to see if it affects the performance based on the Intel® Arc™ Graphics – Desktop Quick Start Guide?

Also, @Mookei please do create a separate thread on this matter so another representative will assist you further on this matter.

Hi Dhanniel,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve already described this issue in detail, but I’ll clarify again:

This issue doesn't only occur when streaming via Discord or OBS. It also happens when I try to interact with other applications while a game is running — for example, when I try to move or interact with other windows (e.g. Chrome, File Explorer), things start freezing or become extremely sluggish. And when I start a stream (Discord, OBS), the system sometimes completely freezes or becomes unusable.

I haven’t tried enabling ASPM yet, but I will and update you after testing.

————————————————————————————————————

Also, while I was writing this message, Call of Duty: Warzone on my main screen actually crashed — not just froze like usual. Normally, when I use something like Chrome on the second screen, the game visuals just freeze temporarily and go back to normal when I return. But this time, after a few minutes, it completely crashed. (Freezing game visuals also isn't a normal thing but i got used to it using this card...)

Attached the screenshot of the crash.

Hello swiftishere,

I hope you are having a good day.

I just want to update you that we are now looking into this issue.

While doing that, let me also ask for the following logs in IGS.

 create/update the following Registry Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\IntelGraphicsSoftware

 LogLevel=Trace

And get the logs by going into Windows' Event Viewer, under application -> Intel Graphics Software

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello Michael,

Apologies for the delay — I’ve been quite busy the past few days.

I’ve already completed the requested steps. I enabled the LogLevel=Trace registry key and restarted the system. After running a few graphics-related applications, I checked the Event Viewer under Application > Intel Graphics Software, but I didn’t find any critical or error-level entries. Only a few logs from weeks ago showed all zeroes (e.g., "0 0 0").

Even though I haven’t installed the latest Intel driver update yet, things seem a bit more stable than before.

I’ve been using the system quite a bit since making the registry change, so there might be some newer logs available now. I’ll double-check and get back to you tomorrow with any updates I find.

Thank you for your help and support so far, and apologies again for the delay.

Best regards,
swiftishere
