Intel driver installation incomplete in Kubuntu 24.04

I installed the intel drivers to my ASUS Zenbook 14 with Kubuntu 24.04/noble according following guideline: https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html

In step 2 an error message that package "level-zero" cannot be found was displayed and in step 5 an error message that package "level-zero-dev" cannot be found was displayed.

The installation was successful after removing those packages from apt install commands.

But afterwards the laptop display is still marked as "unknown" and the resolution is still fixed to "1920x1080". So, I assume that the installation is incomplete without those packages.

Please help to get the topic fixed.

Remark: I wanted to attach my ssu information file also, but the upload of 14kB did not work and I stopped it after 30 minutes. Please inform how I can upload it.

Thanks FlyingRobi

Hi Dean R.,

I identified the root cause for the "unknown-1 recognition of my internal display" now.

It was not the driver, but I added the kernel parameter "nomodeset" due to an issue with plymouth resolution.
After removing the kerner parameter the display was identified and I could change the resolution and the display was switched off by sleep mode.

(I solved the plymouth topic in different way).

So, adding the Intel PPA is not needed for using (k)unbuntu 24.04 with ASUS Zenbook 14.

Hi FlyingRobi,

Apologies for the delay in my response. We can email you with this so you can send the SSU file to us.

Also, have you ever tried contacting ASUS for this?

Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi FlyingRobi,

Apologies for the delay in my response. Upon checking with the specs of your laptop, it only supports Windows 11 OS and may encounter issues with other systems.

You may contact ASUS if it really supports Kubuntu. Thank you.

Hi Dean R.

I read you reply and the link and firstly did not reply, but as you ask again here it is.

In my opinion the disclaimer at the ASUS site is related to older versions of Windows only and has nothing to do with linux/ubuntu.

  • "This product has only been tested for compatibility with the Windows 11 operating system, and may encounter compatibility issues if Windows 10 or older OS versions are installed."

My (K)ubuntu 24.04 installation works well and the "unknown-1" recognition of the internal display is the last issue I need to solve.

As a result I cannot change the resolution and sleep mode does not turn off the display.
I read somewhere that this can be solved via the intel driver repository providing a more advance driver for the quite new graphic card, but this was related ubuntu 22.04. The intel page explained how to install the repository also for 24.04 and I used it with above mentioned problem.
Not sure, if this is really a problem or normal, but anyway the problem with "unknown-1 recognition of my internal display" was not solved.

I also installed newest 6.9 and 6.10 kernels, which also did not solve the problem.

The topic is not so severe that it causes big impacts for the laptop usage.

Anyway, in the meantime I removed the intel ppa and all related SW again and now wait for a solution via standard updates.

As its quite new HW it may take still a while according my experience.

Let me know if you have any other advice.
