Issues with drivers when using Alchemist & Battlemage cards in the same system.

Hi!
I’ve been trying to use my Arc A750 & B580 in the same system, with a A750 handling recording/streaming/encoding while the B580 runs the game itself. It seems Intel has made the drivers separate though and I can’t get both to install and both graphics cards functional, even using the device manager manual driver method, one or the other has the yellow triangle depending on which driver was most recently installed.

Hi Teal,

Intel® Arc™ Graphics cards do not offer combined GPU functionality for the A-Series nor B-Series (similar to Nvidia SLI* or AMD's CrossFire)

The only tech similar we have is Intel® Deep Link Technology but this is to combine Intel Arc + Intel Integrated graphics (12th gen processor and newer).

I’m not trying to use both cards for the same task, I want both to function, one will output to two monitors, and encode, the other will output to one monitor and simply run the game.

Hi Teal,

Based on my research, it seems possible to work with your current configuration; however, the Intel Arc A & B series may not be intended to function as expected in this scenario.

To help me investigate the issue more thoroughly, could you please provide the following information?

  1. The actual error message associated with the yellow warning sign in the A-card series.
  2. The SSU log report.
  3. Details about the monitor you are trying to connect to.
  4. The driver version you installed, including where you obtained it and how it was installed.

Gathering this information will be instrumental in narrowing down the potential root cause of the error message you’re encountering.

Thank you for your cooperation, and I look forward to your response.

here is the exact error from device manager (copy pasted)

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The I/O device is configured incorrectly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrect.

I have attatched the SSU report log below (it may show a Microsoft Remote Display Adapter, as I was connected via RDP to write this reply in a timely manner).

I am using a Samsung Odyssey G8 G85SB monitor, my driver versions are 32.0.101.6458 for the A750, and 32.0.101.6257 for the B580, I have tried two separate installation methods to install these drivers while using DDU in between to remove any extra variables, it is also worth noting this particular Windows Install has only ever had Intel Arc Graphics Drivers.

First I used the standard method of using DDU on the old drivers, and then installing the new one after downloading it directly from the Intel website, which got the A750 working. I restarted the system and the B580 showed in device manager, but with a yellow triangle.

Then I installed the driver again, thinking it might have just been an error, and the B580 starts to work while the A750 now has a yellow triangle in device manager.

The second method, was after I removed all the drivers with DDU again, I extracted the driver I downloaded from the Intel site and installed the drivers manually, using device manager, following the instruction that I found inside the extracted driver files. This got one or the other GPU working, as device manager requires a restart after installing drivers. So either the A750 would work after I installed its drivers, and the B580 stops working, or the B580 works and the A750 stops working.

hi!

this is the error in device manager (copy pasted)

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The I/O device is configured incorrectly or the configuration parameters to the driver are incorrect.

The A750 is currently using driver version 32.0.101.6458 while the B580 is using 32.0.101.6257.

I used to separate installation methods to install the drivers, while using DDU in between to make sure the issue was consistent.

The first one I downloaded the drivers directly from the Intel website and my A750 started functioning after the PC restarted from the install, the B580 showed up in device manager but with a yellow triangle. I reinstalled the driver again, thinking it might have been user error, but this time the B580 started working, and the A750 was showing up with a yellow triangle. Both had the same error in device manager.

The second method I used was to extract the driver I downloaded directly from the Intel website and then install it using device manager, following the instructions I found in the readme file inside the extracted driver. This also didn't work as I would install the A750 driver, the PC would restart, I'd install the B580 driver and then it would restart, and the B580 would be functioning while the A750 showed up in device manager with a yellow triangle, and they would alternate with whichever got the driver install last.

I have attached my Intel SSU Logs below, they may show an RDP adapter as I was using RDP to reply to this post in a timely manner.

Hi Teal,

Thank you for providing the detailed information. I will need to check this internally to see if we can find a way to make these cards work together without encountering any errors. I will get back to you as soon as I complete my investigation. Thank you for your patience.

okay!
if it’s oki with you could you let me know if the investigation will take longer than February 15th, as that is when the return period for my B580 ends, and if both cannot generations of GPU cannot work together I plan on returning this GPU and wait for the B750/70.

Dear RonaldM,

Pardon my ignorance, but I own a B580 and an A770, which I have had to use on different computers to enable them to perform at the highest speed. Can I use both in the same machine (like I use my 4060 TI, 3090s, 3060s, etc., on various other machines so that the faster card can use the slower card as a memory pool in LM studio, Ollama, Framepack, and other AI tools) and get the faster one (which one?) to use the other one as a memory pool? I need to generate videos then upscale them for my work and also use LLMs, both of which I mainly have to use with Nvidia cards.

If your B580s and A770s can operate the same way (e.g., in Framepack the slower Nvidia 3060s on PCIE slots can be used as a memory pool by the faster Nvidia GPUs to generate videos), since they are so much cheaper than 3090s or 4060 tis, I will cancel the 5070 tis that I just ordered and buy your GPUs instead. They are a great deal (less than half the price of 3090s from Amazon refurbished) if they can be used in the same way or if your faster GPUs can still generate videos using my 3060s as memory pools, like the faster NVIDIA cards can.

FYI: Note that24 gb Intel B580s or A770s or B770(? if such exist) would be preordered by me if they ever arrive.

Thank you for your response in advance,

Mike F
