Performance Issues When Streaming via Discord with Intel Arc GPU

Hello,

I'm experiencing serious performance issues when trying to stream certain games via Discord using my Intel Arc GPU. Here are my system specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
RAM: 32 GB
GPU: Sparkle Intel Arc B580 12GB

When I stream a game on Discord at 720p 30 FPS, my in-game FPS drops from around 150 to 30–40, but only when the game is running in borderless windowed mode. In fullscreen mode, the FPS drop is much smaller (only around 10–15 FPS). Also, when I Alt+Tab out of the game while in borderless mode, the Windows mouse cursor starts lagging and stuttering.

Disabling Discord’s stream preview and switching to fullscreen improves things slightly, but the issue still exists. This problem only occurs in certain games like:

  • Sea of Thieves

  • Throne and Liberty

  • Diablo IV

I have tried disabling hardware acceleration in Discord and adjusting many other settings, but the issue remains.

Most importantly, when I stream the same games using OBS to platforms like Twitch or Kick, I do not  experience any FPS drops or lag. The problem only appears with Discord streaming.

It seems like there might be a compatibility issue between Intel Arc GPUs and Discord screen sharing, especially in borderless mode.

I would appreciate any help, suggestions, or updates regarding this issue.

Thank you.

Hi @NEZZDY,

Thank you for posting in the community. To further assist you and investigate the issue, please provide the following details so I can help isolate the problem:

  • Please provide the SSU log report and share it here so I can review your system's configuration.
  • Which digital distribution platform did you use to install the affected game? (e.g., Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, etc.)
  • Have you tried performing a clean installation of the graphics driver using DDU, and then updating to the latest version 32.0.101.8132 (WHQL Certified)?
  • If possible, please provide a brief screen recording or screenshot of the issue. This will help me observe the behavior and analyze how to reproduce it. You may also include the in-game settings and Discord streaming settings for additional context.

Note: I can only investigate one issue and one game title per thread. For other games experiencing similar problems, I recommend submitting a separate ticket. This helps us stay organized and ensures each issue receives focused attention.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Hi Randy,

Thank you for your response.

Here are the details you requested:

SSU Log Report: I have attached the SSU log report to this thread.

Game Platform: The game was installed STEAM

Driver Installation: Yes, I have already performed a clean installation of the graphics driver using DDU, and then updated to version 32.0.101.8132 (WHQL Certified).

Screenshot/Recording: I’ve attached a [screenshot/screen recording] showing the issue

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Best regards,

,

I play Sea of Thieves at medium settings with around 130–150 FPS, but whenever I stream on Discord at 720p 30 FPS, the game's FPS drops to around 80–90. During this time, I experience stuttering when moving the mouse, and as shown in the video, the stuttering becomes even more noticeable on the desktop.

Hi @NEZZDY,

I want to confirm if ReBAR (Resizable BAR) properly enabled? Intel Arc GPUs require ReBAR for optimal performance, and this streaming issue might be related to memory bandwidth limitations if ReBAR is disabled. Could you confirm if ReBAR status affects Discord streaming performance specifically? Additionally try to disable Windows Game Mode temporarily and test the game while using Discord.

Let me know if there's any changes.

Best regards,

ReBar is enabled and the issue still persists. I also tried disabling Discord hardware acceleration, but the problem remains. Windows Game Mode is also turned off.

Hi @NEZZDY,

Thank you for confirming.

Before I coordinate this concern internally, may I kindly ask for the following details:

  1. The make and model of the PSU (Power Supply Unit).
  2. Have you noticed any drop in connectivity during recording?
  3. Have you tested any previous drivers?
  4. If yes, please document which versions were tested.

Lastly, I’d like to confirm:

Did this issue begin only after updating to the latest driver version, or was it already occurring prior to the update?

Best regards,

Dear Randy,

Thank you for your response.

Please find the requested details below

PSU :  MSI MAG A650BNL 650W

connectivity during recording : While streaming on platforms like Twitch or Kick, I experienced some minor stuttering and FPS drops, but nothing too severe.
However, when sharing my screen via Discord, there were significant FPS drops and noticeable freezing  during the session.

I have tested the following previous driver versions:

32.0.101.7029

32.0.101.7028

Regarding your final question:

The issue did not exist initially. I have been using the Arc B580 GPU for about two months, and everything worked fine during the first few weeks. The problem started occurring around 3–4 weeks ago, which suggests it may have begun after a recent driver update.

Hi @NEZZDY,

Have you tried reinstalling the Discord application? This often resolves issues related to high CPU usage, which can lead to lag or stuttering. Let me know if there's any changes.
