Poor performance in an arc a770 16gb

Hi all I'm getting super poor performance in a variety of games and this seems to be regardless of what graphics driver I am on (I'm currently using 31.0.101.4577) I have also tried uninstalling all drivers with DDU and reinstalling but have had no luck :(.

For example I am getting sub 20 FPS with low settings in spiderman remastered with the medium present  and looking online I should be getting way above  60 FPS

I have the Capx performance alongside the settings being used and some system info any advise would be great as I'm a bit at a loss on what I can do

Thanks

Hello s0mnipathy

Thank you for posting on the Intel® ARC™ Graphics Communities. I know that not getting the best performance from your GPU can be frustrating so I will be happy to help with this one.

Taking a look at the Capfram data you provided there is definitely something strange going on since as you mentioned you should be getting 60fps or more on Spider-Man Remastered and from what I checked you are only averaging 20fps. Also, based on the log files from Dxdiag, I do see a couple of problems that you can correct and might help to solve this issue:

  1. There is a mismatch in the driver version installed in both iGPU(UHD 770-driver 4577) and dGPU( Arc A770-driver 4952) both of them should show driver 31.101.0.4952 installed, so I would advise you to do another DDU installation, and reinstall only driver 4952 on your system.
  2. The BIOS installed on the motherboard is outdated, there are a few updates that contain stability and compatibility improvements. In order to ensure the best compatibility with the GPU go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and update the BIOS to the latest version which should be F28a.
  3. After the BIOS is updated, reset the BIOS settings to defaults, and after the settings have been reset make sure to enable Resizable Bar which improves the overall performance of the GPU.

Thanks Hugo

I  have tried to do all of this and sadly i have not been able to change the performance at all

I have gabbed some new Capx performance recordings  alongside the settings updated settings.

Is there anything else I can try from here?

Hello s0mnipathy

Thank you so much for sharing the updated log and completing the troubleshooting steps.

Something I noticed from the CapFrameX log is that the CPU is being used at its limit and the GPU is not being used that much, from the GPU clock speed I see it is just 650Mhz when it should be higher as well as the GPU temperature is only around 50 and it should be higher when gaming, so please I would like you to test the following:

  1. From the motherboard's BIOS, disable the integrated GPU, you might need to contact your motherboard manufacturer in case you do not know where the option to disable the iGPU is located. This will ensure only the Arc GPU is being used and handles all the workload.
  2. From Intel Arc Control, Go to the performance tab and right-click on the restore defaults button, there are no overclocking settings affecting the functionality of the system. These should have been reset after you did the DDU installation the last time but it would be better to make sure.

If there issue still continues, I would like to ask you for some extra information that would help us better understand the cause of this problem, since this issue looks quite strange:

  1. Was this GPU working fine before? Or is this the first time you are installing it and testing it?
  2. Is the GPU installed on the very first PCIe slot on your motherboard from top to bottom?
  3. Besides Spider-Man Remastered, What other games are affected by this issue?
  4. Is this an Intel Limited Edition GPU or is it a model from a different assembler? As well what is the firmware installed on it? You can check the firmware by clicking on the gear icon on Arc Control and going to System Information.
  5. Please record a video playing Spider-Man Remastered, and capture the system activity/performance using the Arc Control overlay (ALT+O) and also the Task manager's performance task, this will be very helpful for us to see how the GPU is behaving and what resources are being used.

Hello s0mnipathy

I wanted to follow up on this, have you been able to complete the recommendations from our previous post? In case you are still experiencing performance issues with your Intel® Arc™ A770 GPU, share we us all the details we asked for in our previous post as well, which will help us determine what is causing the problem on your system.

Hello s0mnipathy

I will be closing this thread since I have not received a response from you, we hope the last recommendations we provided to disable your GPU and to reset Arc Control to default settings helped to resolve this issue, however, feel free to open a new topic in case you are still experiencing low performance in your games.

Hello s0mnipathy

We wanted to let you know that we were doing some tests on Spider-Man Remastered and could not find any performance issues. I am attaching the SSU file with our system specs and the CapFrameX data, we recommend that you continue updating the graphics driver in case you are still experiencing issues.
