I've acquired a first generation Compute Stick from a liquidated company, and am trying to get it up and running. I'm getting a login screen when I power it up, but don't have any login credentials. When I try the F8 recovery option I get an error screen saying "Recovery....A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error code: 0xc0000225"
Does this mean that the recovery partition is damaged? If so, can I use a "normal" Windows 8 or Windows 10 ISO to restore the O/S, or does this require a custom version of Windows for the Compute Stick?

What is the exact model number of your compute stick?

There likely isn't a Recovery partition. Make yourself a fresh installation image on a SD Card and use it to do the recovery. Use the Windows Media Creation tool to download and build the installation image. Don't forget that it is the 32-bit version that is required.
Hope this helps,
