I am trying to generate a companion license for my home computer by opening the window "Generate Companion/Temporary Check-out Licenses". However, every time the hostid in the generated license file points to my primary computer, not the companion ID specified on the web page.
Here is the diagnostic I get from the license management tools:
================================== begin
--------
Diagnostics

FlexNet diagnostics on Fri 3/27/2020 13:09
-----------------------------------------------------
License file: C:\altera\15.0\license.dat
-----------------------------------------------------
"alteramtivsim" v2021.03, vendor: mgcld uncounted nodelocked license, locked to ethernet address "8851fb6b4d2e" starts: 27-mar-2020, expires: 27-mar-2021
This license cannot be checked out because: Invalid host.
The hostid of this system does not match the hostid specified in the license file.
Feature: alteramtivsim
Hostid: 8851fb6b4d2e - this is the hostid of the primary computer
License path: C:\altera\15.0\license.dat;
FlexNet Licensing error:-9,57
================================== end
My companion hostid is nowhere to be found in the license file.

Hello
Welcome to INTEL forum. May I know, have you re-generate your license file? You can help to regenerate again your license file in Self Service Licensing Center and try it a. Only the license administrator can re-generate the license file.
Guidance: https://fpgasupport.intel.com/AlteraLicensing/license/index.html --> Licensing Center Home --> Computer and License Files --> Select a computer to generate a new license file.

Hello,
I followed the steps described here:
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/programmable/us/en/pdfs/education/demonstrations/online/licensing/how-to-generate-companion-or-temporary-license.pdf
====================== description begin
Step 1: Log on to the Intel Self Service Licensing Center. Navigation: https://fpgasupport.intel.com/Licensing/license/index.html
Step 2: Enter your usernameand password
Step 3: Click the Self-Service Licensing Center link
Step 4: Select Computers and License Files tab
Step 5: Click Generate Companion / Temporary Licenses button
Step 6: Select the computer with or without companion ID(s).
Step 7: If the computer does not have any companion ID(s), enter the companion ID(s).
Step 8: Click Get License button
====================== description end
I did it several times. Every time I get a license file for the primary computer, not the companion license (my primary computer has 2 companion IDs ).

I also tried to do the same (generate companion license and run the simulator) on my office desktop - an HP PC running Windows 10. The result is the same - only the primary license is generated - no companion licenses.

Hi
Based on my understanding on your note, my guess is you have a fixed-node license and you would like to request for second license for laptop. Yes, it is possible to generate another or second license for a fixed-node license. The companion license can be assigned to up to 3 computers but only one computer can be used at a time. Could you help check on this?

You are right, I do have a fixed-node license.
I never use more than one computer at a time because all of them are in different locations. Unfortunately, generating a companion license for my home computer is not possible. No matter what I do, the license is generated for the primary computer only.
