11.1.051 Installation Fubar

I am installing the 11.1.051 update (VS2008 on XP) and found that I have inadvisedly deleted the msi for the previous version 1.1.038, which causes the installer to fail and roll back.

The actual error message is "Error 1316: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:|WINDOWS\Installer\w_cprof_ide_ia32_emhe_p_11.1.038.msi"

I thought to uninstall 11.1.038 from XP since I have no further need for it, but the absence of the msi is apparently also preventing this.

I thought to reinstall 11.1.038 but it is no longer available for download.

What to do?

Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the old versions and then try again. If it still fails, let us know and we can go from there.

No joy. I have removed all components using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but the 11.1.038 compiler still shows up in Add or Remove Programs.

Attempting to delete again from Add or Remove Programs now only gives the option to Add, but fails of course.

11.1.051 is apparently also still seeing 11.1.038 and failing in the same way when I attempt to install it.

Some success. After wiping every trace of the Intel software from my machine 11.1.051 was willing to install. 11.1.038 will not go away, but this machine is not long for this world, so I am not going to worry about that.

Thanks for your help Steve.
