I want to install hdf libraries in intel fortran compiler. When contacted the hdf group support, I recieved a response from them which essentially said that the libraries can be installed only on Intel Fortran Compiler version 9 and Visual Studio 2005, as some of the dll's may not get installed in the latest version of Intel Fortran Compiler version 10. Can you please mail me the link to download Evaluation copy of Intel Fortran Compiler version 9 along with license file for installation of evaluation copy. Also please mention the cost of the same with discount (if any) for Academic Institute.

I find the response you received very strange, as the combination of Intel Visual Fortran 9 and Visual Studio 2005 was never supported.

You can request an evaluation of version 10.1 and install that. You must already have Visual Studio 2003, 2005 or 2008 installed in order to install the evaluation version. I suggest trying that with your HDF library and see if it works. If it doesn't, you can ask for help here or through Intel Premier Support which is available to you once you register the evaluation license. If version 9 is truly needed, it can be provided afterward, but it does not work with VS2005.

Can you post the actual response you received?

The actual response that I recieved from hdf group (limiting to our topic of discussion) is what you find below:

We support Intel 9 on Windows and VS 2005. We know that the DLLs do not work with Intel 10.

We do not support Compaq Visual Fortran. We do not test with Lahey Fortran.

Very interesting. Would you please point me at contact information for the library developers? Thanks.

I downloaded the hdf dlls about a year ago and I got them to workwith Intel 9.1. However, it took me many emails before Idiscovered that they had compiled the dlls with "cvf" calling convention. This was not documented anywhere that I could find. So be aware of that. I suggested that they should switch to the Intel default convention (and maybe they have by now), but if they haven't, more users suggesting it might help.

Steve

I'm currently using visual studio 2005 and Intel 9.1 (at least that what it shows under the Help>about menu), so I don't understand your comment regarding that.

I was referring to Vista - 9.1 is not supported (officially) on Vista.

Intel Fortran supports the use of STDCALL as a call mechanism.

Go to the Intel Registration Center and register your evaluation serial number. Have it email you the license file and save it as a text file. Now, go to your list of products and select 10.1.021. On the next page, about half-way down., is a pair of dropdown menus allowing you to select older versions. I would suggest trying 9.1 first, as 9.0 does not support VS2005. When you install the compiler, tell it you have a license file and point it at where you saved the email license file.

Hi Steve,

Same(ish) question, different year! I would like to download an evaluation version of the Intel Fortran Compiler version 10.1 or older b/c I need it to use with the Mathworks Matlab Mex compiler which is compatible only with 10.1 or older. I do have a license for an Intel Fortran Compiler on Linux. Is there any way I can download an eval copy of IFC 10.1? Thanks!! Orion Parrott

It seems likely that a newer compiler would work, if 10.1 is supported, even though the newer compiler may not have been available at the time your Mathworks was developed.
If an evaluation license gives you an opportunity to try an older compiler, the procedure would be the same; register your serial number at https://registrationcenter.intel.com and see what versions are available to download.

I'm unsure which OS you want to get the 10.1 compiler for. If you apply for an evaluation license, you're given a serial number which you can register. Once you have done that, you can log in to the Intel Registration Center and download a previous version, but must use the license file emailed to you on registration in order to install the older version.

Licenses for Intel compilers are OS-dependent - you cannot use a Linux license on Windows or vice-versa.
