Update 11.1.038 error

After the announcement went out i clicked the link and went to the directory and downloaded a previous update.
During installation i realized this so i cancelled the update installation.
my prior version still works fine.
however, when i went and downloaded the correct update,11.1.038, and try to install, it gives an error that it cannot install to Program Files/Intel (see attached screen capture).
I've used properties to remove any 'read only' from all of program files/Intel.
I am THE administrator and/or have been updating/installing w/o any problems for years!
my system is XP Pro, Service pack 3, i am/was using visual studio 2003/2005.
But also took the time to download the studio 2008 install of the update and it still produces the error.

any ideas?
thanks!

Try disabling any anti-virus you have running. I have not seen that particular error reported before, but clearly something is blocking the installer from accessing that folder.

A possibly related annoyance is that my Intel Compiler updates with Intel64 have made the Program FilesIntel folder read-only every time. This doesn't interfere with Administrator installing (it's not sufficient to be in administrator group), but it is very annoying when it comes to fixing the .cfg entries. In this thread, although it is not specified, I suppose only the ia32 update is in question.

Tim, what evidence do you have that the compiler updates are setting the folder read-only? I don't see that on my system.

disabled anti-virus/prgm control and still no go.
IF i change the install directory from c:Programs Files to c:INTEL
it goes to the next step (I may end up installing ther to keep moving, but would like to install to the 'normal' installation directory)
Strange error in that i have extracted all the files (1st for IA32 and when the error occurred i downloaded and extracted all the files for the whole shebang 64/32/etc) to Program FilesIntelDownloadw_cprof_p_11.1.038.
So things can be copied/executed.
My reason in the initial thread for mentioning the previous aborted (well i guess it is a cancelled update as after I Quit I let itcontinue untilfinally it said 'completed').
Butcould the cancelled updateperhaps have set something in the Registery which now has a hold on program Files???
It certainly hasme baffled!

I don't think the registry is involved in this. You may want to see if a reboot helps.

I had done a reboot or two to no avail, but did another one to see if 3s the charm.
nope. nothing charmin about it!
currently cleaning off one of theunused Intel Fortran updates via Add/remove programs.
Currently have 10.1.025,11.0.061,11.0.072,11.0.074 all installed and operating properly.
Figured maybe removing one will clear up the lock on program files or something?
I am still fully functional with INtel compiler/Visual Studio and other stuff, this problem seems isolated to 11.1.038.
Mainly an annoyance!
I it still doesn't work after trying the 11.1.038 update installafter cleaning off 072,i will nextinstal another program into Program Files which shouldanswer the question of whetherit is a system/windows problem or a problem with the Intel installation script?

There's no "lock" that I know of. This is very strange. Something on your system is denying you write access to that folder.

Removed ver 072, (to insure access to Program Files OK) no problem. It's gone. Everything else working fine.
Tried the installation of update 11.1.038, and had same problem with installation to Program Files
So then I tried the installation of the latestupdate to Winzip (which installs to Program Files) to see if somehow a lock on Program Files.
worked fine.
I've also used the Properties Tab on Explorer on INTEL subdirectory to eliminate all 'Read Only' status.
Still won't install.

any ideas howto proceed?
(again, I'm working fine with 074, just the nusiance factor on the update)

Thanks

Which 038 file did you download? Perhaps you can try a different one (say, the full package if you used _novsshell, or the _ia32 file) and see if that works.

This is a longshot, but do you have rights to install software on the machine, meaning Admin rights?

Never mind...I looked and saw that you were Admin.

i first started with IA32 only (no shell)
and then tried with Full (IA32, 64, & Shell)
same problem, whether full or custom installation.

It's something that has a hold on the program files/INTEL directory.
not sure what it could be.
whenever I use Explorer->Properties to remove the 'read only' status it returns to read only on next check.
So wondering if some errant process from a previous install/update?
that also explains why I can update/install other things to other directories in /Program Files.

Is there actually a check in the Read Only box, or is it just colored in? Can you create a new folder in the Intel folder?

i can create new folders in program files/intel and/or program files
I am guessng it is some auxialliary installation file/log file/file check part of the installation script which has become corrupt and/or for some reason doesn't like Program Files/Intel??!!
as i mentioned, if i change it to some directory other than Program Files, it goes to the next step.
I also went back and 'reinstalled' the 11.0.075_ia32 update and it installed to Program Files no problem.
but when i once again try 11.1.038, it doesn't work.

I am going to have to ask our install developers for assistance on this. I've run out of ideas.

How did you cancel the install? Maybe the cancellation process went awry andthere is a stubprocess started by the installer and still running which has access to the folder and has locked out other users. I have no idea of the names of processes that may be run during an install - Steve or Tim's help is needed here.

If theycreate an installlog file and could let me know where it is stored, that may be enlightening.
i expect the install directory is somehow garbled/clipped or otherwise messed up.

i have done the reboot shuffle to eliminate that possibility and then also installed 11.0.075 which worked fine (I had skipped that update previously waiting for 11.1).

I found the location of the log files: C:Documents and SettingsBrian McHenryLocal SettingsTemp
the 'main' log file is >2 megs so let me know if they need it.
here's part of the log which doesn't seem to have issues and correctly identifies the Program Files/INTEL as installation directory
and each time it comes up with the error message included on the first message of this thread UNLESS I change the installation directory to somethign other than Program Files.
BUT
I have installed the 11.0.075 update to the program files directory AFTER this issue came up without any problem.
