Is the extra ssd only for storage? Why isn't it possible to install a second operating system (i.e. Windows 11 on it)?

You purchased a NUC with an H (tall) chassis, which has a drive bay for a 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD/SSHD. You can most-certainly install a drive in this bay and use it to boot a second O/S. Remember the following:
- The 2.5" drive you install can only be 9.5mm in height. You cannot install any of the HDDs that are 15mm in height. This currently limits HDD size to 2TB and SSD size to 4TB.
- The 2.5" drive's performance will be limited by the SATA interface and is not going to come close to that of an NVMe SSD installed in the NUC's M.2 slot (this is why I talk about this as being a data drive, as performance is not as-crucial for data file access).
- The drive you install needs to use GPT partitioning and the O/S you install needs to use UEFI boot.
- In order to boot from this secondary drive, you need to press the F10 key during BIOS POST and select the drive from the menu that appears.
Hope this helps,
...S

Thanks for your reply. I assume the bottleneck is that I need to buy a second operating system, because the pre-installed one seemes only usable for the M.2 slot. Beside this, performance is not the most important reason for me. I am retired and still activ as volunteer to help senior people (via helpdesk Seniorweb.nl) with their windowsproblems. So I need to use Windows 10 as well as Windows 11.
Nevertheless : thank for your fast and informative answer !
