Hello Stefthebeast.

Thank you for your reply.

Based on the information you shared with us, you are trying to set up your OS on a Western Digital WD Black 500GB High-Performance NVMe PCIe Gen3 8 Gb/s M.2 2280 SSD drive, as previously mentioned on last interaction, Please, take into consideration that you cannot accelerate an NVME hard drive with Optane memory.

We recommend you to set up your OS on AHCI mode by changing your UEFI BIOS settings in accordance to your motherboard manufacturer manual:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/ROG_STRIX_Z370-E_GAMING/E13238_ROG_STRIX_Z370-E_GAMING_UM_WEB_082417.pdf http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/ROG_STRIX_Z370-E_GAMING/E13238_ROG_STRIX_Z370-E_GAMING_UM_WEB_082417.pdf

After you are able to access to your Windows 10 OS follow the steps available under the section 2.1of the "Intel® Optane™ Memory Installation Guide":

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf

The latest version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software available at Asus for your motherboard can be found here:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-E-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/ https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-E-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/

NoteFor secondary/data drive acceleration support, 16.0.2 or later is required. A System BIOS update is also required, contact your motherboard vendor.

We hope you find this information useful.

Hi Josh

I want to accelerate my 1To HDD, not my nmve SSD OS drive. Both are from WD.

My mb is a Z370-F not Z370-E

Hello Stefthebeast.

Thank you for your reply and the clarification about your motherboard model.

Please take into consideration that the latest BIOS update available on the Asus website for your motherboard is the Version 1002 and it was released on 2018/07/06, the latest version of the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver that supports secondary/data drive acceleration was released on 07/19/2018, please verify that the latest version of the system BIOS is compatible with secondary/data drive acceleration (we advise you to contact your motherboard vendor).

I do not understand what you mean by "I Need to move on RST mode, when I'm doing that, during the new windows installation, I don't see my SSD in the choice for install the OS."

The "https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf Intel® Optane™ Memory Installation Guide" section 2.1 includes the steps on how to install Optane™ on platforms starting in AHCI mode like yours.

The step number 3 shares the following information:

"This window shows that the installer has discovered the system SATA controller is configured in 'AHCI' mode. This screen notifies the user that it will be automatically switching the SATA controller to RST Premium Mode. Click Next to continue."

As stated on this step the installer changes this feature automatically and you do not need to switch the SATA controller to RST Premium Mode manually.

We hope you find this information useful.

Hello Stefthebeast.

Thank you for your reply.

Please, follow the "https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf 2.2.3 Uninstalling the UI" steps and after that process is completed follow the "https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf Intel® Optane™ Memory Installation Guide" section 2.1.1 that includes the steps on how to install Optane™ on platforms starting in AHCI mode by installing the "https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27985/Intel-Optane-Memory-User-Interface-and-Driver-for-System-Acceleration?v=t Intel® Optane™ Memory User Interface".

Let us know if you come across any errors and provide us with screenshots and error codes in case that you do.

Verify that your version of system BIOS is compatible with secondary/data drive acceleration, for this we advise you to contact your motherboard vendor to get further information about future releases and instructions in case that it needs a specific hardware configuration (for example a specific M.2 port that the Optane needs to be set up on).

We will be looking forward to your reply in case that you need further assistance.

Hello Stefthebeast.

Based on the screenshot provided the error that you are experiencing is the following:

"unsupported system drive

Intel Optane memory does not support the system installed on the PCIe drive"

As mentioned on our previous interactions you cannot accelerate an NVME drive with the Intel® Optane™ Memory and since your OS is installed on an NVME drive the software is not able to continue the setup process.

As part of the troubleshooting you can try the following guide:

*Please, notice that this guide was created using Intel® products only and we can not assure you that it may work if you have components from different manufacturers.

In order to perform a Windows fresh installation and a secondary/data drive acceleration in a system with a primary/booting NVME drive with a system BIOS that is compatible with secondary/data drive acceleration and starting in RST premium follow the steps below:

Intel recommends that a full and verified backup of data be performed before attempting to apply this process; see "The Importance of a Backup Solution" at

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/server-products/000007914.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/server-products/000007914.html.
  • Access to your system BIOS and access to the following settings:
Peripherals / Intel®RST RAID driver

Once here check if the NVME drive and the Intel® Optane™ Memory are detected properly.
  • Turn your PC off and disconnect all the other hard drive devices from your system including the Optane and check that your NVME drive is the only storage device in the system.
  • Start the Windows setup process and select the Custom: Install Windows only(advanced option) and select the Load driver option.
  • Download the driver from the following link and unzip the file on the USB thumb drive:
https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27985/eng/f6flpy-x64.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27985/eng/f6flpy-x64.zip
  • Click on browse and select the folder where the drivers are located and the installer is going to load the list of available drivers.
  • You are going to be offered with 2 option, please, select the Intel® chipset SATA/PCIe RST Premium Controller.
  • After loading the necessary drivers it should show your NVME storage device.
  • Continue the setup process as usual by selecting the drive that you want to use as primary and accept if the system requests to create more partitions.
  • After the setup process is completed boot to your new Windows installation and completes the required information to access your desktop and turn your PC off
  • Connect your Intel® Optane™ Memory and the secondary SATA drive that you want to accelerate and turn your system back on.
  • Check on the Disk manager tool that your drives are detected properly.
  • Download and install the following software: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27985/eng/SetupOptaneMemory.exe https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27985/eng/SetupOptaneMemory.exe
  • Restart your system as requested at the end of the setup process.
  • Access to the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27985/Intel-Optane-Memory-User-Interface-and-Driver-for-System-Acceleration?v=t Intel® Optane™ Memory User Interface and check the acceleration settings.
We hope you find this information useful.
