Hi,
I wish to remove the 16gb Optane , and replace with a 500gb M.2.
Laptop is an Asus TUF FX504.
So, This is what ive done till now:
Went into Intel Optane Storage and Memory Management, and disabled it.
Opened laptop and physically changed memory stick,
When I turn on laptop I get 'Inaccessible Boot Device',
Checked boot devices in Bios and its marked as the main drive as being the boot device.
Thanks

Hello, Wenzu_Zah.
Thank you for posting on the Intel Community Support forums.
I received your ticket regarding the inaccessible boot device, and I will be reviewing this with you.
If the Optane Memory was properly disabled before being removed from the system there is no reason for the system to not be able to boot after the disk is removed.
Just to confirm, did you restart the system after disabling the Optane module using the software? or did you immediately turned it off and removed it? it sounds like it was the later based on your description.
Additionally, with this being an OEM system, if you continue having boot problems, it may be necessary to contact the system manufacturer for assistance on how to restore the system or set it up again.
I will follow up on April 3rd.

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for your reply,
When I deactivated it, a button came up for me to restart the laptop, that I did.
After re-start I opened memory management software to check if was still deactivated, it was.
After that is when I shut down system and removed Optane Memory stick.
I only have the boot issue when the optane stick is not installed, if its installed the laptop boots normally.
I have checked other M.2 stick and is operating as normal when connected to external driver.
Thanks

Hello, Wenzu_Zah.
Thank you for the response.
If for some reason the software is not able to disable the acceleration, it may be necessary to disable it form the system BIOS, please check with the system manufacturer for detailed steps on how to do this, as every system BIOS is deferent depending on the OEM, or check their self-service options online.
It is strongly recommended that you backup your information before performing any type of changes in the BIOS or the RST driver.
You may also try updating the Intel RST version, once the update is performed try to disable acceleration again; you can find the latest version for your system in the downloads page for your system in the manufacturer's website, or you can review the following links:

I will follow up on April 3rd in case additional time is required.

Hello, Wenzu_Zah.
This message is to inform you about the closure of this support thread.
I previously recommended to check with the system manufacturer how to disable the Optane from their BIOS, and also to confirm what their latest version of the RST for that platform is along links to the versions on our site, but there was no response from your part after trying to follow up.
The thread will be closed right now, and it will no longer be monitored by Intel support, but if you require any type of assistance from Intel in the future, just open a new thread, or contact us using any of the available support methods:
