What would happen if my Optane break

In the (very unlikely?) event that my optane break down, can I get my data back? Is there a setting to select the mode (like intel rapid storage) or I can only use the given settings. Futher more, can I swap the optane out while it's working (hot swap?)

You should disable the optane and take a backup of the drive. Then, re=enable the optane.

No, you cannot swap out the optane. Again, disable the optane, then swap out the module, then re-enable the optane.
