SSD firmware updating via USB?

Hello,

I consider purchasing a 540s 240 GB, as a replacement for the HDD in my Lenovo desktop PC.

I'd like to update the SSD firmware before I clone the HDD content to the SSD.

Will the Intel SSD firmware update utility allow a firmware update of the SSD, when the SSD is still outside the PC (connected to the PC by USB cable)?

The firmware update for the Intel® SSD 540 Series is only available through the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18363 Intel® SSD Firmware Update Tool and this procedure requires that your SSD is connected via SATA and not through USB.
