Early Power Estimator Problem

Hi,

I'm trying to run the cyclone IV EPE. On starting, after the enable macros pop-up, Excel announces Run-time error '429' ActiveX component can't create object. From here, the spreadsheet basically does not work. The Excel version is 2002 SP3, which should be in the acceptable range. I have run the repair function. The maxII version and stratix II version run OK, the stratix iii/iv version does not - same problem.

Searching the forum for epe produces no results, searching for epe error produces lots, but only for error.

Sorry, do not have access to other version of Excel.

Any ideas?

S.

your Excel sounds too old. from the Stratix III/IV/V EPE User Guide:

Microsoft Excel 2003, Microsoft Excel 2007, or Microsoft Excel 2010

The download page for the Cyclone III etc (http://www.altera.com/support/devices/estimator/cy3-estimator/cy3-power_estimator_download.html) quite

clearly says "Microsoft Excel 93-2007 & 2010 32 Bit". This may of course be wrong..... SR.

since the Cyclone EPE was updated for CV, i bet the document is stale and should read the same as the Stratix document

Since this old question was never answered..

I fixed this issue by following the EPE user guide instructions to change Excel Macro Security Level.
