Float All License?

Hi,

I bought Altera Quartus II version 9.1 SE using Float All license, but I a bit confused about that. I would like to ask a question. Sorry if my question is to silly.

What does Float All license means?

If we have Float All license and installed it in a server, does it means that everyone who can connect to that server can use the software at the same time?

Or a Float All license at the server that we just buy, only can be accessed by one/several user at same time only?

In my case, two user already open Quartus software, but when I check the license using :

lmutil lmstat -a -c <port>@<host>

the result is like this :

....

users of quartus: (total of 1 license issued; total of 0 licenses in use)

....

Does anyone know the answer...

Thanks... :)

i think Float All had some meaning in the past, now it just means Floating license. meaning anyone on your network can set their Quartus/LM_LICENSE_FILE=<port>@<server> and they can check out your floating license.

since you only have 1 floating license, i recommend going to Tools > License Setup and checking the Wait for floating licenses box on each Quartus client.

Thank you very much for your answer, but what does "wait for floating licenses" means..?

Thanks...

if your 1 floating license is checked out by client A, and client B wants to run a compile, there are 0 licenses available to check out. instead of failing compilation, client B will pause, waiting for client A to check in the license so it can be checked out again.

I see,..

So the license only restricted in compilation process only,..

We can install quartus in many computer but only one client can perform compilation process at one time...

Ok, thank you very much, you help me a lot... I appreciate that... :) :D

correct.

you can install the altera tools on all computers you want to have them, but if one of them requires a license for a specific action, it asks the license server and get the license if available.
