Hello,
I know probably it is not possible , but let me try anyway. Is it possible to lauch "System Sources and Probes" without having Quartus installed on your pc? If not, I wonder why Altera did not do what it did with Signaltap, i.e. giving you the possibility to install on your pc only Signaltap to debug and not all the (heavy :() Quartus tool. I would need it for the Quartus 10.1. I really think it is not possible, but I hope to be wrong :-P. ByeLink Copied

You can have Quartus installed on a development machine, and the jtag server installed on your 'hardware' machine, i.e., the machine with the USB-Blaster attached to it.
If the 'hardware' machine is not an x86 processor, then jtagserver cannot be used. If however the 'hardware' machine runs Linux, then you can export the USB-Blaster via usb-over-IP. For example, I've tested this scheme using a PowerPC processor with a USB-Blaster attached to its USB interface, and then programmed an Altera device from my x86 laptop. Cheers, Dave- Mark as New

Hi Dave,
thanks a lot for your reply. I have got quartus 10.1 installed on 2 machines (1 windows and 1 linux), so I have 2 dev machine. My HW machine (the one attached with tha jtag cable to my board) is my laptop, with windows (intel centrino). What should I install on my laptop in order to use In-System Sources and Probes without having to install Quartus on it? Cheers AG- Mark as New

--- Quote Start --- What should I install on my laptop in order to use In-System Sources and Probes without having to install Quartus on it? --- Quote End --- The program you want running is the jtagserver. I've never tried just installing that component. I recall people installing jtagserver on their host machine so that their virtual machine could use the USB-Blaster via the server. Look for threads on that, and see if you can find an answer. If you cannot, post a new thread "How to install jtagserver?" and ask. Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
I installed the programmer v10.1 and the jtag_server is included in it. I managed to do what I needed. Thanks again for your precious suggestion. Cheers AG- Mark as New
