Modelsim Altera starter edition needs licence ... why?

i downloaded the modelsim altera starter edition which doesnt require licence -as said in the web site - but when i try to open the program the following error is shown how can i use the software in this case.

It's strange. 

 

I don't know the answer but I would try: 

1) set Quartus option to correctly set Modelsim path 

2) re-install modelsim. 

 

Did you install Quartus before modelsim?

yes i did i installed the quartus ii 9.1 sp2 webedition and then modelsim i m using windows 7

the 10.0sp1 version of ModelSim-A(S)E still doesn't support Windows 7. whether or not that would trigger a licensing issue, i don't know 

 

for what its worth i've used Quartus II 9.1sp2 Web Edition and the corresponding version of ModelSim-ASE without a problem

can then please give me the link of modelsim-ase since i think the one at the website is the subcription one

now that i think about it the ASE link may have been hard to find around 9.1
