Hello
First of all - I'm all new to this. I have been trying to run the simple hello world example by following the tutorial. I have been using "Quartus II 11.0" 32 bit on a Windows 7 platform SP1 platform together with "Nios II 11.0 Software Build Tools for Eclipse" I am using an Altera DE2 board. I have been given a pre made project for Quartus II which my teacher claims to be working. So I used the SOPC builder tool for generating, then did the compilation and finally transferred the .sof file to the DE2 board. Everything went smoothly. Next I set up the premade Hello world project by using the "Nios II application and BSP from template" in "Nios II 11.0 Software Build Tools for Eclipse". My projects built fine and I have confirmed with my teacher that my settings for "Nios II BSP Editor" are all fine. However when I run the hello world application my Nios II Console shows no output and the application never terminates. Note that stderr, stdin og stdout are set up for jtag_uart_0 in the BSP Editor. After that I put a breakpoint in the code and tried to debug the application. It never reaches the break point so actually the code doesn't execute (at least that's what I think). However I am experiencing some strange problems when debugging: First of all I get this strange message: ".gdbinit: No such file or directory" followed by a "Stopped due to shared library event" message which sometimes keeps repeating itself (sometimes I have to terminate it myself). However it also depends from time to time what happens. One time it started outputting squares in the Nios II Console. However this has only happened once! It automatically opened a file named "crt0.S" file in the debugger (I don't know why). I follow the tutorial very carefully and I remember to run "Nios II 11.0 Software Build Tools for Eclipse" as administrator under Windows 7. I even tried to set up a Virtual Machine on Windows XP (installed it from scratch) and tried to do the same thing. It just does'nt work (same problem - the code doesn't execute). I am starting to think that this may be a hardware problem. Have can I confirm that the hardware is running proberly? In the manual a Power on Test is described. When I do the following steps I don't get the "Welcome to the Altera DE2 Board" which the manual claims should show up in the LCD Display. Thanks in advance! PeterLink Copied

If you could put some sanpshots and photos or the running hardware i think i might be able to help you.
On your DE2 board just make sure on the left there is a switch called program or run. Always put that switch on run.if you have already put on program and tried to load your design in it you might have override an existing program. That program is suppose to run every time you turn on the board.
