Quartus II 13.0sp1 Waveform Files Refuse to Simulate

Hello all, my waveform files don't simulate on my pc. On my schools computers they function normally and I have no idea why. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the issue keeps persisting. I have attached a video of what happens when I try to simulate my waveform. My Quartus is 64 bit and my OS is windows 10 64bit. Please let me know if you guys have any solutions. Also I tried using the modelSIM simulator instead of the Quartus II simulator and the same thing happened.

There is a dialog box that pops up with some kind of error/warning about academic use only.

I suspect there is some kind of licensing issue as the simulation works at school (with licensed academic software I assume)

but not for you at home (unlicensed?).

the academic use only thing pops up at the school desktop too. This issue just recently started happening I was able to simulate waveforms before but I didn't do anything different on startup so I am confused.

Are you using the subscription/licensed version of Quartus 13.0sp1, or the web/free version? I am guessing the former.

Is there licensed IP in your design?

I use Quartus 13.0sp1 web/free on my WIndows 10 64b (and Windows 7 64b) and never had to enter any kind of license code.

I believe that Modelsim is the default simulator in that version of Quartus; there is no (or ever was) a Quartus simulator.

I don't or didn't ever use Modelsim I used other 3rd party logic simulation tools.

Hello, I am using the free version and no I never had/was prompted to input any license code. About having IPs in my file this is from my school so maybe? my friends dont have an issue on their PCs. The modelsim route also give me the same error which is why I am confused. If modelsim didnt give me an error I wouldnt be here. But thanks for trying.

Hello,

I think you need to ensure the Simulator Waveform Editor is set up correctly.

Try selecting Modelsim simulator instead when you select in Options, it should be fine for you to use this instead.

Before you start your simulation, ensure the EDA settings is set up correctly. Go to Tools>Options>EDA Tool options and check that your ModelSim executable path is set correctly (you can check for the correct path in your local files, it is usually "C:\altera\13.1\modelsim_ase\win32aloem")

Ensure your project is fully compiled before starting simulation.

Here are threads that have problems with Simulation Waveform that you may find useful:

I also want to add that Quartus II 13.0sp1 does not support Windows 10. I would suggest using any versions of Quartus Lite that supports Windows 10. This is because using an unsupported OS may cause inconsistencies.

Nurina
