I read thru this thread and don't have enough information to be certain this will work. I recently tried to install a Quartus programmer (V11.0) under a virtual window of VMWARE. Running WindowsXP. Programmer seems to execute the gui, but even tho we have installed the USB Blaster driver and hardware sees the blaster, the programmer doesn't. Can't figure out where the disconnect is in the driver/application connection to the USB Blaster. Anyone who can help, this would be cool!

I took a quick glance at WineHD, but didn't read all about it.
What is this app? How does it help with running Quartus? Did this fix the problem of using the Altera programmer and Signaltap features with the USB-Blaster? Were there special steps in setting this up to work properly? Is this letting Quartus run native in the MAC OS or is this the VMware and Windows version? See.... lots of questions... :)- Mark as New

--- Quote Start --- I took a quick glance at WineHD, but didn't read all about it. What is this app? --- Quote End --- winehq.org/about/ --- Quote Start --- How does it help with running Quartus? --- Quote End --- Wine will run many Windows programs. --- Quote Start --- Did this fix the problem of using the Altera programmer and Signaltap features with the USB-Blaster? --- Quote End --- I don't know. I am quite new to Altera stuff. --- Quote Start --- Were there special steps in setting this up to work properly? --- Quote End --- I had an installation disk. I mounted the CD, opened up Terminal, navigated to the directory containing the installation file (optional), and entered wine <program name>. I obviously didn't use "<program name>". After the installation was complete with all default settings, I am now able to use Quartis with the following Terminal command: wine ~/.wine/drive_c/altera/71/quartus/bin/quartus.exe I went farther by making an alias for this command so that I can just type in quartis to run the program. --- Quote Start --- Is this letting Quartus run native in the MAC OS or is this the VMware and Windows version? --- Quote End --- Native. :)

I recently switched parallels after upgrading to lion and have encountered some issues with sbt communication via jtag. No issues with lion and parallels on wii v11.0 or spa

Hello,
I am thinking about using the Altera DE2-70 Digital Camera Development Platform for some image processing work. Goal: read images from a digital camera, SD card and/or PC (MacBook Pro). Processing the algorithm on the FPGA and than display the image on LCD and/or (PC) screen. I am running OSX version 10.6.8. The idea is to use Parallels and than install Ubuntu. The idea is to communicate, program with the board under Ubuntu. Will this work. Or do I best use vmware fusion. Thanks. Regards, J- Mark as New

Hey,
I am still using Parallels for Lion (forgot the rev) and running 10.7.2 for several months now (both 11.0 and 11.1)...no issues. I am using the vip suite w/nios on quartus 11.1 with nios sbt 11.1 and system console 11.1....again no issues. I haven't tried the ubuntu path...I know you need some special configuration within your cshrc to get quartus to launch...and I know some folks on the forum have done some nice work getting it to run. However, I chose to run the win 7 x64 path and am very happy. I believe fusion will work just as well...just so happened that some other programs my wife needs on my iMac recommend Parallels (autodesk stuff), so I chose parallels. Good luck!
