Simulate Nios with Modelsim Starter edition?

I am trying to simulate my Nios program with modelsim. When I select Run As-> Nios II Modelsim, I receive the following error

Failed Executing: make sim SPD=/home/paul/FPGA_Projects/an351_design/an351_design/niosii_system_tb.spd ELF=/home/paul/FPGA_Projects/an351_design/an351_design/software/nios_sim1/nios_sim1.elf ENABLE_VSIM_GUI=1 VSIM_DIR='/shared/altera/14.0/modelsim_ae/linuxaloem' return code: 2 

" 

Does Modelsim Starter Edition support simulating the Nios?

configure the run as nios ii modelsim to call modelsim ase instead of calling modelsim ae
