Could anyone explain what the encoding table in the state machine viewer is telling me or direct me to an Altera infosheet.

Hi Fibrescan, have a look at

Thanks but I had already looked at this doc and it does not tell how the encoding information relates to the state mach diagram. Having studied a simple sate machine I just cannot see the relationship.

Have you tried also the classical Quartus Help? It seems explaining everything in detail.
The state diagram is in the top side of the window and displays the various states of the State Machine with their transitions in a graphical way. The transitions equations are diaplayed in the bottom side of the window. What else do you need to know?- Mark as New

The Encoding tab seems also self-explanatory to me. In a VHDL state machine, I have the state enumeration in the left column and the respective state bits on the right. May be you have special settings that make it look different. Can you show an example of apparently unrelated encoding information?
