Ubuntu Linux / Debian support? Why Not? Tarballs are for the birds.

I would like to request that Altera consider supporting a package management system for linux such as 'apt-get'

It would make the task of keeping users up to date with service packs and new releases trivial...

Instead of tar balls, links, and library management just do this:

apt-get install quartus

and the user would have the tool

then occasionally a

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

and the user would have all new service packs and etc

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, i must fully agree with you.

All linux systems here are based on debian and the handling aith apt-get is soooo easy.

Anyway, has anybody succeeded in getting quartus / uClinux running on a debian system ?

Regards

I've been running Altera / Quartus on Ubuntu for 2 years - someone else has written a tutorial on how to install Quartus on Ubuntu systems:

For those who are interested in creating .deb package files:

It's really easy to take a working installation and turn it in to a .deb file...
