Intel Unison not launching on boot & not working in the background

I asked a similar question to this before but I was unable to reply to the devs because I was busy at that time. I'm hoping this time I tell the full story in one post but if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to respond in a timely manner.

Unison not launching on bootup

Here's what I think the issue is:

Intel unison not being showing in

  • task manager - startup
  • msconfig - services
  • task scheduler

Here's what I've done so far to attempt to fix the issue:

  • uninstalled and reinstalled intel unison
  • enabled unison to run in background in the app
  • enabled unison to start when windows starts in the app
  • basic windows troubleshooting sfc, dism, etc

Work around solution. Another user pointed out there is an alternative way to get it to launch on boot. It is as follows:

First, create a shortcut to the Intel Unison Application:

    1. Press Win + R to open the Run Tool
    2. Type shell:AppsFolder inside Run's Open box
    3. Press Enter to open the Apps folder
    4. Scroll the Intel Unison App icon, right click on the icon and select "Create shortcut"
    5. Highlight the shortcut you just created by clicking on it, then press Ctrl + X to cut the shortcut to your clipboard

Next, move that shortcut to the Windows Start-up folder:

    1. Press Win + R to open the Run Tool
    2. Type shell:startup in the open box
    3. Press enter to open the Startup Folder
    4. Paste (Ctrl + V) the Shortcut created above into folder

When I booted up my computer it just launched Unison.

Unison not working in the background:

I'm unable to receive any notifications on my phone. When I do launch unison and close unison, I do see the unison in my window tray and in task manager. Upon relaunching unison (it is supposedly running in the background). it needs to reconnect to my phone. When closed(minimized & running in background) either unison looses connection or unison stops functioning. At first I thought there was something wrong with my phone but it's not as unison is already running in the background of my phone.

I do not see unison in services but I'm not sure if that is abnormal behavior

Here's what I've done so far to attempt to fix the issue:

  • uninstalled and reinstalled intel unison
  • enabled unison to run in background in the app
  • enabled unison to start when windows starts in the app
  • basic windows troubleshooting sfc, dism, etc
  • unrestricted usage of unison on android (optimized -> unrestricted)

I'm not sure what the issue is. I'll provide the SSU, hopefully that'll work.

I've always had trouble getting it to work. Even on my Lenovo Laptop, I had the same exact issue.

As far as software changes, I have not made any.

Hello TaChonkerz

Thank you for patiently waiting.

Could you please share the following:

·      Model of your phone.

·      OS version.

·      Unison mobile app version.

We need you to check the permissions. If the notifications cannot display in the phone, then you need to check the apps permission settings.

It is important to check Task Manager > Processes, and verify that the 3 running tasks of Intel Unison Client, Intel Unison and Runtime Broker are listed after opening the Unison PC App.

Phone Model: Sony Xperia 1V

OS Version: Android 14

Mobile Unison Version: 20.17.5053

Note: I have mobile unison's battery usage set to unrestricted & I have notifications permission allowed.

When Unison is opened on pc, I see Intel Unison, Intel Unison Universal Client and runtime broker.

When Unison is closed an running in the background, I see Intel Unison, and runtime broker.

When I open notification settings on pc, I do not see Intel Unison on the list. Here is what I see

TaChonkerz_0-1705372827774.png

Edit: one thing I noticed is when I open Unison, mobile unison tells me that I have connection, but when I close unison (to the background), it appears is that I lose that connection
