If AVG VPN is active when the Intel Managment and Security Applicaiton service starts, a file called gms.log in SysWOW64 grows at a massive rate (many GB per day), which only stops if you disable the VPN briefly. Is this a known bug? And is there a fix?

Hi Alberto,

I ran the program and the installation completed successfully. However, the LMS version reported is the same, and I could not find anything to run that would give more information. There is an app that calls itself Intel Management and Security Status, but i can't get much out of it. Access Monitor gives an error (Failed to retireve Access Monitor report).

I exported some information from it:

Item         Value

Operating System Name   Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Operating System Version   10.0.17763 Build 17763

System Manufacturer   Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

System Name      DESKTOP-PROPER

System Model      To be filled by O.E.M.

Processor      Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2.70 GHz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

BIOS Version      American Megatrends Inc.F2

LAN DeviceID      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B8&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_31\3&11583659&0&FE

LAN Driver      12.15.22.6

WLAN DeviceID      NA

WLAN Driver      NA

And:

MEBx Version   11.0.0.0005

FW Version   11.0.0.1163

LMS Version   11.0.0.1162

MEI Driver Version   12.0.0.1208

MEI DeviceID   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A13A&SUBSYS_1C3A1458&REV_31\3&11583659&0&B0

SOL Driver Version   NA

SOL DeviceID   NA

On start-up, the gms.log begins with:

(3644)[2019-06-18 12:06:31.374963] [LM_DEBUG] GmsService:Starting service

(3644)[2019-06-18 12:06:31.374963] [LM_DEBUG] GetAppVersion: Got version: 11.0.0.1162

(3644)[2019-06-18 12:06:31.374963] [LM_DEBUG] Major version: 6, Minor version: 2

It then ends with entries like the following, which it writes at several hundred per second:

.

.

.

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:07:32.706820] [LM_DEBUG] Port: 56689

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:07:32.726958] [LM_DEBUG] PFOR: --> _connect

.

.

.

If I disable and then re-enable the VPN, there is a transition:

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.749142] [LM_DEBUG] LMS:connection attempt was failed on socket:2540

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] PFOR: <-- _connect Status: 4294967295

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] PFOR: --> _connect

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] Port: 62023

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] PFOR: <-- _connect Status: 2652

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] LMS:PFWS: signalled start <=========== THIS IS NEW ==========

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] GmsService: sending message to Configurator

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] GmsService: sending message - found destination service

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] LMS:Connection requested on port 16992

(9864)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] LMS:received new connection from 127.0.0.1:50316

(3644)[2019-06-18 12:09:09.750138] [LM_DEBUG] GMSC: --> handle_output

.

.

.

And then it settles down and the log stops growing.

Regards,

Chris

Hello Chris,

We apologize for the time this has taken towards a resolution. On one of the previous communications you mentioned you were running LMS version 11.0.0.1162, just to confirm is this the lates version available at the OEM website? And if that is not the case, can you please update to the latest and let us know?

Thank you

Hi Alberto,

I downloaded an update from Gigabayte, and the version is now reported as 1911.12.0.1243.

The gms.log problem is not longer occurring!

Thanks for the assistance.
