How can I recover a D435 that reports: OpCodes do not match! Sent 44 but received -9!

I have tried updating firmware, and restoring factory calibration tables. Firmware update succeeds, but camera still shows same error. Calibrator fails to run (reports same above error). When reading calibration tables, I see:

CustomRW for Intel RealSense D400, Version: 2.6.4.0

I was unfortunately unable to answer this question as I have never come across this particular opcode before and was unable to find any reference information about it after extensive research.

As you have not yet received an answer from a member of the Intel support team for the three days since you posted it, I will refer this question to one of them to draw it to their attention.

Hello JBara1, Thank you for your interest in the Intel RealSense D435 camera. Could you please let us know in what application do you see this error message? What is your Operating System? We would also recommend updating the RealSense SDK 2.0 to the latest release - https://github.com/IntelRealSense/librealsense/releases/ to check if you receive the same output when performing the calibration. Looking forward to your reply! Thank you and best regards, Eliza

Hello JBara1, If you are seeing this error message in RealSense Viewer, could you please if you see this error message when running both RGB and depth, or just one of the streams? Thank you in advance, Eliza

This error appears in Realsense Viewer on mac 2.17.1, in a librealsense application on arm64, and in the dynamic calibrator.

realsense-viewer shows the error immediately upon adding the camera, and upon attempting to start a stream. The camera only shows "stereo module" and does not show options for a color camera.

Hello James, Have you tried to use your camera on another PC that is not a Mac? If you get the same results on a different PC, then it means that your camera is faulty and must be exchanged for a new one. Please contact your place of purchase to process an exchange. If it works on another PC, and not your Mac, then the we would have to do further troubleshooting to determine why this is happening. Regards, Jesus G. Intel Customer Support

I came here via google because I had the same error, albeit on a D430 not a D435. Other symptoms I had were an inability to read the calibration table after setting it to the factory golden (Intel.Realsense.CustomRW -g seemed to work, but Intel.Realsense.CustomRW -r said there was a bad calibration table) and when I looked at the realsense devices in Windows Device Manager, it said I had a D400 not a D430. There was no answer here, so FYI, after working with Intel Support (ultimately with Jesus G. referenced above), it turns out I had a bad connection in the interposer, and had to disconnect and reconnect it more carefully to make sure it was mounted properly, and once I did this, the module worked. So, I would suspect your D435 has either bad depth board or a bad interposer connection.
