14700K Limit wattage to reduce temp? Warranty question

Hi Intel. I have a 14700K processor and I am running on the default Bios settings (Intel defaults) which sets both my P1 and P2 wattage to 253 by default. Is it allowed for me to change the P1 and P2 wattage of the processor without voiding the warranty as long as I stay within the 125W - 253W threshold specified in https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/236783/intel-core-i7-processor-14700k-33m-cache-up-to-5-60-ghz/specifications.html ?

I would like to lower the P1 and P2 to something like 180W or 200W to reduce my temperatures when running cpu intensive tasks.

Hi @TeddyIsConfused,

Adjusting the P1 and P2 wattage settings within the specified range for your Intel Core i7-14700K processor is generally allowed and should not void your warranty. Setting the base power at the same level as the maximum turbo power for infinite tau is in spec at the hardware default power rating. Exceeding the ICCMax or TJMax Intel is out of spec and is considered overclocking and may void warranty.

Hi Randy! Yes thank you, it was a very good response.

Additionally, I want to check if it's okay to undervolt a cpu or if this will void the warranty. I see many people in reddit suggesting undervolting to reduce the temperature and keeping the same performance.

Altering clock frequency or voltage may void any product warranties and reduce stability, security, performance, and life of the processor and other components. For me I'm not suggesting altering frequencies of the processor this is only my personal point of view. Exceeding the ICCMax or TJMax Intel is out of spec and is considered overclocking and may void warranty.

If you sets the base power at the same level as the maximum turbo boost power for infinite TAU it is not considered overclocking and we will continue with troubleshooting/warranty.

• P1 - Power Level 1 - Stock Power State
• P2 - Power Level 2 - Power State
• TAU - the amount of time that the processor stays at P2. Usually around one minute, but can try to make the processor always stay in this state.

In summary it should not void your warranty.
