Is SAD/TAD deactivated in 6th generation of i5 processors? (i5-6600)

Hello,

I am trying to read and write some registers about SAD/TAD

I have a simple question.

Is SAD deactivated in i5-6600 ? (Device 0, Function 1)

I know there is nothing about SAD/TAD in 'Datasheet of 6th generation processors vol.2'.

But since there are related contents in Xeon and other documents, i thought there would be SAD/TAD in i5-6600, too.

Thanks

Hi JaemoonSim,

6th generation processors have SAD / TAD instructions enable; however, they are handled by Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX).

Thank you for your response.

I have one more question,

Does your answer means that SAD/TAD is disabled when SGX is disabled by BIOS?

Even though SGX is disabled, I think DRAM requests need to be properly routed.

Please correct me.

Thanks,

Jaemoon Sim

Hi JaemoonSim,

I am really sorry on the delay of the answer, the case got lost from my queue.

You are right. It is possible to enable or disable the option from BIOS of the board. Intel offers the feature but board manufacturers enable or disable the option by default on the BIOS.

On Intel NUCs, it is possible to enable it through Security tab.
