what version of Nios are you using?
If it's Nios II, then it is a checkbox in the install. If it is Nios I, then tell me the version number and I'll point you to an ftp site.- Mark as New

Ok, thanks so much! the version is 3.1,but I want the new version gnu tool set.
By the way, Can I run linux operating system on nios I system? I have many questions about nios system. Now, I don't have operating system and so I can not use fopen(). If I port a operating system on nios which support filesystem, what should I add to the compiler I am using such that the compiler is able to use fopen() function?- Mark as New

You need to use the gnu source that was compiled for the version of Nios you are using.
Since there were no changes between 3.1 and 3.2, you can use the 3.2 source. Microtronix has a linux kit for Nios I, but it is not free. See their website (they host this forum). Email me khallbec@altera.com and I'll send you the ftp site for the source.
