I got same problem when I was using Nios ide 1.1 and uclinux_1.4 release.
I uninstalled uclinux_1.4 release and installed uclinux_1.3 release and its working fine. Just try it once. Ankur- Mark as New

Dont mix IDEs or different Cygwin installations. My advice is remove all Cygwin, Nios IDEs and Quartus from your PC, then clean the registry with regclean and install from scratch. In my case this worked.

You should really build tools and work on Linux.
There is no such trouble as nios2 or IDE version.- Mark as New

You should avoid spaces in the pathnames when installing the Nios tools on Windows.
But Hippo IS right.... Sooner or later you WILL move to linux 'cause it works WAY faster and with a lot less trouble!
