Communication Board/Computer

Hello everyone, 

 I would like to make an application on my computer like the demo Control_Panel. My aim is to use my DE0-Nano board to get informations from differents sensors (temperature,humidity, etc.) and to send these data to my computer. Data received will be displayed. Could you share any info, or project wich involves communication between the board and a computer ? What would you advice concerning the programmation of the application running on the computer.   Thanks for your help.
