the Configuration work well at room temperature

when we goes down to 10 Celsius degree and down to - 20 Celsius and turn on the board voltage the device no get the configuration

Hi Shraga Leitner,

This is weird. May I know how many unit is having this issue? Do you want to proceed for ERMA?

Hן YL

we have the same problem in all the boards

What is ERMA?

Hi Shraga,

If it is working under normal temperature but not cold temperature (-20 C), the connection and schematic should be correct.

Also, have you probed and observed the configuration pin on MAX 10?

ERMA is a process for us to perform failure analysis.

Dear YL

It is very strange, it is working from +40 to -30 degree

the main problem is that unter 10 degree when we turn OFF the power and ON again the Altera not working

so we cant power up at low temperature.

is it problem of device or pin configuration ?

Shraga.

Hi Shraga Leitner,

Can you please probe the power rail VCCIO, VCCA and VCC. The reason is because these power rail is required to power on the device. If the power rail is not at the intended voltage, can you please check if the power supply is working properly? If the power is working properly, please check the pin nSTATUS, nCONFIG, CONF_DONE.

Moreover, the problem is happening on all the board (i assumed is all the devices you have), it seems to me it is board issue.

Can you please confirm?

YL

Dear YL

  1. can we send the FPGA board schematic for review ?
  2. can you let me know what is the device configuration that we should set, we did set without nSTATUS, nCONFIG, CONF_DONE. pins - what is the correct setup for this IC ?

Thank you in advance

Hi Shraga,

The reason to probe "power rail VCCIO, VCCA and VCC" and "configuration pin nSTATUS, nCONFIG, CONF_DONE" is to identify the root cause for it.

I dont think we need to check the schematics. The reason is because it works normally but not in low temperature (-30 Degree Celcius).

Hope for your understanding.

YL

dear TL

can i disable the pins nSTATUS, nCONFIG, CONF_DONE when we config via JTAG?

the only function now on is Auto_restart configuration after error

Hi Shraga,

I am sorry, those configuration pin are needed for configuration purposes. We cannot disable them.

So, is this function work?

Dear YL.

it is very strange

when we are load a POF file it is loaded at low temperature but not working

when we load a SOF file it is loaded and working

can you explain this problem ?

Hi Shraga,

This is weird. Can you try to recompile the bitstream and try again?

Hi there,

We experienced the exact same problem here on ~20 components 10M16SCU169A7G.

MAX10 do not configure from the integrated flash when temperature drop bellow ~15°C.

We shall power cycle the MAX10 until it get configured and respond to our system at start-up.

When it get configured, we can hard freeze it, he still works as intended.

Does Intel/Altera has investigated the issue ?

BR,

Marc.

More precisely, it looks like the configuration delay increase a lot when the device is cold.

It can take several minutes before MAX10 answer to the communication bus (~15 min worst case we had).

Power cycling it seems to make configuration longer, like if the configuration started from scratch at the same incredibly low speed.

Integrated in the global system, with timeouts and auto power cycle, made debugging quite confusing…
