two boards are assembled on a backplane with a distance about 30cm. Two Arria10 GX FPGA are located on these two board seperately, connecting to each other with Arrria 10 GX transceiver。Does repeater or retimer be need in this application? the data rate is about 8Gbps。

Hi,

This is a like chicken and egg question.

The answer lies on how good is your board and back plane signal integrity performance to decide whether additional repeater/retimer is required or not

My recommendation is pls run board simulation to evaluate your system transmission line signal integrity performance to decide whether you need additional chip to boost signal quality or not

Thanks.
