To verify the working status of Ethernet module of Stratix III Development Board, we set up a system of using Triple-Speed Ethrenet core by Qsys tool. We make a triple speed ethernet working on 1000BASE-X/SGMII PCS mode (1Gbps and Full Duplex).

The system will send a UDP message package (64 bytes) to the PC every second. We use Wireshark to capture live packet data from a network interface.

- Ethernet MAC address on-board Marvell PHY on Stratix III: 00 – 50 – 43 – 00 – 00 – 01

- Board IP Address : 192.168.100.11 source port: 12000

- Computer IPv4 Address : 192.168.100.10 destination port: 12000

testing the ethernet module of stratix iii development board:

We use our current Stratix III Development Boards to test Ethernet module, one of them is instability.

case 1: testing the system on stratix iii development board (stability).

Connecting the Stratix III Board (stability) to the PC using 1Gbps Internet Card.

- The LED lights of Full Duplex LED mode and 1Gbps mode are lighting (Picture 2).

- The Ethernet card status shows the speed at 1000 (1Gbps) (Picture 3).

- Checking message package by Wireshare (udp.port==12000), the PC receives UDP message package from the Normal Stratix III Development Board continuosly every second. The TX LED is blinking when the UDP message package is sent after every second (Picture 4).

case 2: test the system on stratix iii development board (instability).

Connecting the Stratix III Development Board ((instability) to the PC using Gigabit Internet Card (similar to case 1). We also try to make TSE work in 1000BASE mode but:

- The LED lights of Full Duplex mode and 100 (100Mbps) mode are lighting. It can not link a 1000BASE mode (Picture 4).

- The Ethernet card status shows the speed at 100 (100Mbps) (Picture 5).

- Checking message package by Wireshare (udp.port==12000), the PC can't get UDP message package from the Normal Stratix III Development Board although the TX LED is blinking when the UDP message package is sent after every second (Picture 6).

conclusion:

Stratix III Development Board of case 1 works normally when it is link to the PC. However, Stratix III Development Board of case 2 has problem. Its Ethernet module can not link to the PC. It can only be connected to the PC at 100Mbps speed, the data still can't get through.
