I have a working design that the initial target was the MaxII EPM240 device.
When completed Quartus indicated that it wouldn't fit in the EPM240 as 29 LABs were required and only 24 LABs were available. The quick fix was just to go to the EPM570. My question is in the overview table of the various family devices. LEs, MacroCElls, pins, etc are all listed. How does one determine the# of LABs that are available in a device? Looking at Altera's data sheets, I don't see it either? Is it the part of the part number? EPM240 has 24 LABs EPM570 has 57? I also placed the Assignments, device to Auto within the family selected and it won't fit the design, lets say on the MaxV family. The fitter selects a smaller part and stops as it won't fit. I go selected a larger part and deselect the auto and it fits. What is the purpose of auto. I must not have a setting set right???? TIA, MarkLink Copied

Thanks for the reply, feel stupid as that was the .doc I was reading. I was in the LAB section next page.... :(
I have done auto fit in the past and worked fine. I also went to the Max3000A series and it fit fine as well. Might have something to do with pin assignments, if you don't remove them. In the same family going larger you think it would be ok, but....??? Back to the hardware! Mark
