LABS problem

hi, i am having below problem when implementing my design into an Altera DEII development board 

 

Error: Fitter requires 2230 LABs to implement the project, but the device contains only 2076 LABs 

 

can i know what is the meaning of LABs? and how do i resolve it?

you need to optimize or remove some logic to fit the design
