Stratix IV Tecnical Problem

Dear Sir

I have bought Stratix IV 4SGX230N from your site. We have read that this board supports SFP-HSMC card. Therefore we need to buy this card but our research needs high speed up to 10GB. My question is that can this board with SFP-HSMC card accept SFP+, XFP?.

My Best Wishes

You did not buy the kit from this site. This is a user-maintained forum.

Stratix IV GX devices do not support 10.3125Gbps transceiver rates.

Stratix IV GT devices do, and Stratix V devices do.

Dave

Thank you for your replaying

Is the board (DUAL XAUI TO SFP+ HSMC BOARD) suitable with Stratix IV 4SGX230N to achieved up to 10Gbps ?

Do you have a link to the board?

XAUI is 4 x 3.125Gbps, so if the board you refer to has a PHY chip that takes in XAUI and outputs 10.3125Gbps to SFP+, then yes, it would work with the Stratix IV GX FPGA.

Yes, this board will do what you need.

NOTE: the HSMC connector on the Stratix IV GX kit supports 8 transceivers on the connector on the left, but only 6 on the right, so you can only use one of these boards and get two SFP+ ports. You might be able to add a second board, but you would only get one more SFP+ port.

From its name, hsmc_loopback, it implies loopback at the HSMC. This is not what you want for testing a XAUI/SFP+ HSMC board. Terasic likely have an example for that.

I am sure there are several layers of loopback;

1) A simple loopback where data from SFP+ is received over XAUI and then sent back over the link.

2) A more complex loopback where data is received as 10GbE packets and the contents checked.

You'll want to perform both sorts of checks.

Dave
