Hello,

I am using a max10 device 10M16SAU169I7G.

I have a small firmware inside (led blinking & uart).

while my fpga works, it seems that the power that is used is less than 180mW.

On the powerplay early power estimator tool it seems that even without any logic at all the device consumption should be 380 mW.

I am using: TYPICAL, AMBIENT TEMP 25, INDUSTRIAL.

please advice me how is it possible and if the powerplay early power estimator tool is correct.

Thanks, Itai.

The power estimator is deliberately cautious. Your design is particularly low. I'm not surprised it's a long way out.

Based on what you're measuring - no, the tool is not correct (assuming the numbers you've put in reflect your design accurately).

The spreadsheet will get considerably more accurate for higher power designs - although still conservative. It's there to ensure you design sufficient capacity into your power supplies.

Cheers,

Alex
